We probably should change this to the home field advantage magic number thread. I'm officially confident the division is ours now.

I have good news for you, then - you should be almost as confident. The current magic number for the 1-seed is 13 against the Phillies, only one more than the 12 for the Cubs.

Yeah but the Phillies are a better team than the Cubs. It'll be a little tougher to clinch HFA.

The Phils have 4 against the Mets starting tomorrow and then go out west against the Dodgers for 3 next week. Plus non-cupcakes in KC and AZ. That, and Turner got hurt today. I'm feeling pretty good

#13 in your programs, #1 in your hearts, Billy Jo Robideux! The Brewers sure did have a  lot of big, brooding 1B/DH types in the 80s/90s with phenomenal mustaches, but little in the way of actual MLB talent.

#12 is yet another who brought mustache magnificence to Milwaukee, veteran catcher Brian Harper.

You can probably put the Dodgers in the non-cupcake category.

Robideaux was someone I remember being really excited to see come up from the minors, but he didn’t get promoted for multiple years. And yeah, he was disappointing given the hype (but could be misremembering wildly).

I don't want to sound too confident, but there is a rather rotund lady in the dressing room doing lip trills. 😉

But beating the Cubs (and rubbing it in) is more fun... 😉

With H2H matchups amongst the playoff teams being around 7-8 games, thats about 4 expected losses so really got to feel like 7 wins by Milwaukee clinches #1 seed. St Louis and Cincinnati are eliminated from division. Philly losing Turner likely eliminates them. San Diego has a huge say toward #2 seed with their schedule.

Philly's magic number on SD is 15 (they were 3-3 H2H, and I don't know tiebreakers). It's 16 on the Dodgers, and there's 3 more H2Hs in LA next week.

SD has a magic number of 25 to overtake Philly. With 19 games left, that means they have to go something like 13-6 while Philly goes 7-12.

It's possible, but more than likely Philly will be the 2-seed.

If the Brewers play .500 ball for the rest of their 18 games, they end up with a 98-64 season.  In order to catch tie them (ignoring tiebreakers):

  • Phillies would need to go 15-4
  • Cubs would need to go 17-2
  • Dodgers would need to go a perfect 19-0
