Brewers at Cubs--Game 2 of Doubleheader --> Tuesday, August 19 @ 7:05 p.m.: Brandon Woodruff (2.06 ERA, 3.62 FIP) vs. Jameson Taillon (4.44 ERA, 5.19 FIP)

The Cubs are reaping the benefits of beefing up their bullpen at the deadline.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

At this point the cubs thing doesn’t matter to me.   If we don’t get a bye in the first round who gives a crap if you win the division or not at this point.   If we beat out the cubs and still have to play in the wild card then that would be disappointing

If they beat the Cubs they are probably going to get a bye. So yes, it is very important.

I wish I had confidence that Misioroski could give them 4 or 5 good innings, but he seems to have lost the rhythm he had when he first came up. His command has been terrible.

Yep. I think a lot of people have been jumping the gun with the Mis hysteria.

I was hoping Miz wasn’t going to have to have quite this kind of pressure on his start in this series. I suppose it could be worse—the Crew could have lost three in a row and not just two before his start—but he has been dinged up, scuffling, and is in uncharted territory in his career. Time to see what he’s made of.

That’s not necessarily true if they eke it out by a game or two.   The Phillies and dodgers could easily pass them

We have a 7 game lead and that should be ok, but it's worth noting we are 5-6 against CHC so snagging the next 2 effectively puts us 10 up. Going 1-1 makes that 7 game lead feel like a 6.5 game lead.

Too bad we won yesterday.

It would have made the race a lot tighter, (and more fun to watch).

We can still win the next two and put the race out-of-reach

Cubs will be a WC and we will be NL top seed.

easy peasy

Not very likely. Phillies have a series with the Dodgers yet.

I know people don't like to get confident, but the likelihood of the Brewers finishing behind CHC, PHL and LAD has to be infinitesimally small at this point.

One week ago today we were...7.5 games up. Go 4-3, Cubs go 5-3, and we're now at 7. Not too bad, right? Especially when you consider that two weeks ago we were up 4 and three weeks ago we were up 1.

LOL. Winning the next two puts us 9.5 up :)

All in good fun.

They are up 6 on Philly, 7 on the Cubs and 7.5 on the Dodgers. If they lose 6 games to Philly and 7.5 games to L.A before the end of the season than they probably blew the division too.

Too many games left (36) to make any predictions on how this regular season will end. Enjoy the ride.

If we don't win the division so be it. Means we choked or backed into the playoffs. At which point I'd probably be pretty hopeless that we do anything and numb to the pain.

I think we'll end up the 1 seed. We have consistently been the top team since about the ASG. There are too many stats to support it, too much consistency...it's not like 2 years ago where we won a lot of games but it was hard to make sense of how.

None of that means you win the World Series, but I think we'll have the best record.

Anyway you slice it or spin it, this is bad.  Come on tomorrow! And may we get back to the good fundamental baseball the pundits have been praising us for.

We have got to stop getting behind.    It seems like we are always coming back.    At some point get a decent lead early.    There is nothing wrong with that

Well, they still have a 6 game lead, which is the biggest factor.

But you’ve still got to earn it. These last few games aren’t a big deal, but they can’t afford a Mets type run.

I thought the top of the 2nd inning was key. After the Jansen double, Ortiz put up a very strange AB. Battled, saw a lot of pitches, but on his way to 3-2 swung at one or two that were not close, then took one right down the middle for the K. For those who wonder about him sometimes getting PH for--it seems like Murphy just doesn't trust his approach, and it's something he certainly needs to improve. Then Frelick rips one, but right at Busch. After that Taillon really settled in. A guy that was making his 1st start in a long time was at 49 pitches through two then just flipped a switch. And Woodruff was curiously off with the command & really felt the need to lean on the changeup.

Didn't scroll back (yet) but I hope no one was complaining about the Turang tag up. There are scenarios where you don't go----If Martin Maldonado was the runner at 3rd, or if there's no one out, or if the RF is Clemente. All season we've forced people to make plays. They often don't. This time Castro uncorked a good one.

For the rest of this season & if it's a proper situation, any opponent capable of laying down a bunt that doesn't make Aaron Ashby field & throw is just lazy or has a lousy advance scout.

He’s put up 1.2 WAR in 40 innings out of the pen.  He has a 2.06 ERA after tonight.  If that is underachieving then I think your expectations are probably unrealistic.

You are right!  I am wrong!

I stand corrected!

If he's playing through it, it's a bone bruise(I... would think) and that's better than a pulled muscle.

One is just pain tolerance and the other is just...patience and healing.

Contusion, which is what I expected when he was allowed to run the foul line.

Murphy said he probably isn't playing tomorrow.

I don't think he is playing tomorrow, Mona will do just fine but curious who will get called up.
