Imanaga pitched great today, but our guys found a way.

The Cubs only getting 1 in the fifth was huge. Mears had a massive role in this one.

Mears definitely deserved the win! Without him, this game could have gotten out of hand.

While it may not have been a must win, I think walking out with a win vs. your rival/closest competitor instead of a 4 game losing streak is huge.

And even if it’s only a huge deal for my stress level, I’ll still take it.

I posted in the Monday game thread how I expected to feel with the possible results.

Today’s win is the difference between “OK” and “concerned.”.

Those 2 extra games of cushion look awfully big.

Now on to the next stage of the 18 day march.

I deserve the ripping.    Brewers did enough this series.   I don’t want to play in playoffs though

In yesterday’s game thread I was told the Cubs will blow past the Brewers in the division.

Awesome win. Was it the best series? No. Did they get what they needed out of it despite not the best of luck? Absolutely.

The “posters here said they had no chance of winning” is a little bit of straw man, IMO. I don’t recall anyone but @Brewluversaying that, and he's a Cubs fan who wants us to think otherwise.

If Joey Ortiz lands on IL …

Who is the best defensive SS in the minors … on 40-man & off 40-man?

That was my question as well. Didn't get to watch it so have no idea if IL is a likely outcome, but since they cannot add a 14th pitcher my guess would be Tyler Black. He looked good in his limited opps in Cincy, and they don't have another MI on the 40.

Honestly, who gives a crap.

Time to go home up 7 and feast.  Getting 2 is fine given a minor leaguer pitched against their ace once, Misiorowski shouldn't be starting, and Turang was the only player coming through with truly impactful hits all series.

There is a reasonable argument that if we had Chourio this series we would have won three and maybe four games... And we were in Chicago. A home series in Milwaukee we actually are feeling really good about right now.

The second half of yesterday’s game thread was unreadable with the hot takes about the Brewers downfall.

Now, here’s the key question?

Did the Brewers DESERVE to win today? Does that program take into account how many free runners a team hands out?

When Uribe came out after getting out of the 8th inning imagined Murphy imitating Lou Brown  when Willie Mays Hayes made his basket catch:

”Way to get out of it. Don’t ever f****g do that again”.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Then don’t read it.
If you’re looking for great insights you’re not going to get them on game threads.

I don’t find it insightful when half a dozen people post “BRICE” when he hits a HR. To me these threads are for saying the kinds of things you might hear sitting at a bar watching a game.

I lacked the nerve to watch the game in that  little square on MLB's "Big Inning."  But at least now I can watch the condensed game with pleasure again.  2 out of 5 isn't great, even on the road; but it's better than 1 of 5!

Today was a ~10% swing in divisional winning odds.

Cubs started the day at 13% with a chance to get to ~18% with a win, instead they are at 8% now.

They had 7% odds at the start of the series, so they gained essentially nothing.

One thing I have learned from years of watching all sports, coaching & managing kids' sports, and even playing some lawyers' league softball (I was a pretty good junk-ball pitcher in that "New Orleans rules" overhand slow pitch game):  The team that scores the most points/goals/runs "deserves" to win every time.

Now Quintana gets to bookend this series by being asked to go at least 6 again tomorrow to protect the bullpen.

If Ortiz lands on IL … they need to add a slick fielding SS or move Turang over for a few weeks - which I don’t like at all

They gained a game in 5 games and lost the opportunity to pick up any more ground without getting help.
