Giants at Brewers; Saturday, August 23 @ 6:10 p.m.: Freddy Peralta (2.78 ERA, 3.70 FIP) vs. Logan Webb (3.19 ERA, 2.56 FIP)

What you'd like to do is put a guy like Webb on his heels early & we missed out. Right after Frelicks' leadoff single, Collins gets to 3-1, then on 3-2 takes one right down the middle with the runner going, meaning the INF was moving around. Just a bad AB from someone who you don't expect that from. Then a few innings later Bauers actually puts up a real tough AB, 8 or 9 pitches but Ks. Followed (of course) by a HBP & a base hit.

Of course job 1 vs a pitcher like him is to be airtight & we were far from that in the 6th.

Nice comedy relief from Schroeder & Anderson talking about saving & limiting innings at this stage of the year. One of them mentioned Peralta tonight as an example. Ummmm, no fellas, he went five tonight because once again he was at 90-some pitches before getting out of the 5th. He shut them down through five so it's not fair to get overly critical, but he was back to the uncompetitive-pitch thing again today. At least Rodriguez swallowed up three innings before going back to N'Ville.

Gross but if the team is actually tired, they need to throw them a bone here and there. Seems early in this 19 game stretch to be tired though.

The injury's have added up.

Perkins is lost.

He came out swinging the bat really well when they added him, but now that looks like it was fools' gold. He just hasn't played a lot of baseball this year; I'm sure that's a part of it.

Brewers SP have been very underwhelming in the first 10 games of this 19 and 18 stretch. Only 4 of the 10 starts have gotten an out in the 6th inning and 2 of those 4 only got 1 out. Our starts are putting our relievers in a pretty awful spot.

There right Freddy's velo dropped and they pulled him for safety reasons and I don't blame them one bit. Muf said, "if there on the roster they need to contribute."  It was a prove to the coach your even worthy to be on the team.

Peralta was at 96 pitches, with 3-4-5 due up in the 6th, third time around. This coulda been the middle of May & I still don't see them bringing him back out.

Couple of bad defensive plays really the difference in this one.

Yes. You can go into a game like this & hope to put numbers on the board, but more than likely you have to bring your A game defensively & that's what the game turned on. Plus, I guess this wasn't Andersons' night to be pitching out of the stretch for whatever reason.

Gonna give the obligatory "that bottom of the order is brutal" in hopes it leads to a pile of runs tonight.

They led to a,pile,of runs for the Giants with their inept defense.

If you believe in silver linings, the possibility of a Dodgers-Cubs wild card series is coming into focus.

Let's worry about winning the division first.

Truthfully, I think there's very little difference between the top 5 teams in the National League. I'd love to win the division and get a bye, but one reason I'm not sweating it too much is that we're going to end up playing the Cubs/Dodgers/Padres even if we finish as the number one overall seed. Throw the Phillies in there too if you want.

Whoever emerges from that mix as the bye seeds is going to have to prove it anyway, and division titles just aren't that sweet if you lose (in October) to the team you beat out (in September).

Crummy game for sure, but in a run of this many games in a row, I’d prefer this kind of loss over a 2-1 loss where we waste the bullpen.

I dont feel all that confident about facing Robbie Ray tomorrow, but we should have a relatively available bullpen.

It’s a good bet, but it’s far from a Detroit Tigers sure thing. 6 games can swing in a hurry.

I’d feel better if they had taken one more game in Chicago and had the tiebreaker in their advantage.

I'd feel better if the Brewers didn't have 9 more games until an off day with their pitching depth looking in shambles and a very tired bullpen.

He took a pretty nasty bean ball last night

He got hit in the wrist. Not in the head (aka “bean”)

If some people have a pet peeve about spelling, one of  mine is referring to every HBP as a “beaning”.

What is up with Contreras throwing the ball? It's like a changeup.

We were at the game tonight. On both SB while we were still there the jumps were so huge that Johnny Bench on steroids would have had no shot.

The team that has the best record is not the team they put on the field today.

Yes, injuries call for replacements, Replacements are just that.  They are not starters, but are good enough to be in the bigs. They are not though "garbage", which is an insult to them and nasty.

Nope. Not worried about it.

Down to 5.5.   The brewers seem to be and are talking like they are on fumes and there are over 30 games left. That’s not a good sign

im interested in when people would worry.  3.5?    2.5?    People are saying cubs don’t have a chance.   When does that flip

Anybody be surprised if Rodriquez gets phantom IL'd tonight for Tobias or Patrick?

He doesn’t have to be IL’d to get Patrick or Gasser.

I assume he will be optioned and that that was the plan all along.

To be clear, the  OP did not use the garbage  word.  It is though popular on the board.

Jerry Augustine on the radio right now and said the exact same thing about limiting innings for our pitchers now is the right thing to do.

I think it would be nice to get Misiorowski back he pitched only 9.1 innings in a month.
