Yes, several numbers, as posted above, and also including how Durbin hits 24 points lower against righties. Durbin would have to hit a triple or homer to tie/win the game, unless Sal was on the move, then a double might do it. I'm only guessing, but maybe Murph just wanted someone not to make an out so Wild Bill could come to the plate. Siegler has managed to get walks, and he actually probably should have in this AB, if the ump had glasses.

I think it caught the corner. Great pitch.

It sucks, but if we’re all being honest, we’d be upset if Megill didn’t get that call on a 3-2 count with 2 outs in the 9th.

It was the first pitch against Siegler that I'm whining about.

Gotcha. Yep, that wasn’t a strike. I’ll say that is seemed like the high strike was pretty much open all day, but still not a strike.

It's pretty dusty in the house during this Uecker ceremony.

Miss you, Bob.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I see no other place.  During the ceremony, it was mentioned twice that he stayed close to the team by throwing BP each day.

My contribution.  Bob Uecker finishing BP, Metropolitan Stadium, 1979.

I agree Murphy doesn't seem to like Durbin in clutch situations but Seigler? Come on.

You all keep going on and on about the pinch hitter.

Neither one of them gave up 2 runs in the LAST inning.

If the Brewers go .500 the rest of the way (16-16), they finish with 97 wins.

If the Cubs finish with 97 wins (will need to go 22-10), I will not be upset about them winning the division.  They will have earned it.  97 wins is really, really hard to beat no matter how good a team is.

Phillies just lost Wheeler for the rest of the season.  They'll need to go 22-10 without him to get to 97 wins, and will need to sweep the Brewers the last 3 games in MKE to have any chance at the tiebreaker with MIL.

After looking at the remaining schedules, that's correct.

Gentle reminder that MIL is 9-0 against LAD and PHI.

They can, and have, beat good teams.

No, it's all over. The team that actually has the best record should probably just lay down and die at this point.

The inferiority complex of this fan base is so apparent right now. Not just here, but throughout the various boards. Are we a contender or not? If we are, we should be ok. If playing PHI and TOR is that big of a deal, why is the 1 seed so important? We'd play the same teams.

If we do lose the division, it's a 3 game series as punishment. It's not like we couldn't win that. Just enjoy what's left of the freaking year, we have a good chance, and hope for the best outcome.

Boy, that looks like a young Bill Schroeder next to him but then it couldn't be '79.

After cheating, I see it's Buck Martinez.

We’re seeing extreme reactions from both ends today.

Saying that the race is over and the Cubs will win is extreme.

Saying that the race is over and the Brewers will win is extreme.

Saying that anyone who says the Brewers are showing signs of a slump that could cost them the division thinks the race is over is extreme.

The Brewers playing .500 or worse the rest of the way is hardly out of the question.

The Cubs going 22-10 the rest of the way is hardly out of the question.

if you want examples of Brewers teams collapsing in late August and September after being in strong position they aren’t hard to find.

If you want examples of Brewers opponents putting together big finishes to overcome deficits they aren’t hard to find.

If the Cubs would go on to win the division with 97 wins (or any other amount), some Brewers fans would apparently tip their caps and not be upset at all. As I said yesterday, I think those fans are in the minority.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

If you think Brewers fans as a group are more skittish than fans of other teams when their favorite teams show signs of a fade, you either haven’t been around too much or haven’t paid attention

What got me yesterday was the pinch hitter choices of Murphy.  Who ever heard of Bauers and Seigler as your "go to guys" to win the game for you at the end?  Bauers batting .060 / 2 for his last 33.  He should not even be in Nashville let alone the Brewers.  Then Seigler who is three times better than Bauers batting .208

Bauers has to be cut/released the very second we call up Hoskins.

Turns out it takes more than the power of friendship to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Yes, that has been a bit cheesy of a talking point. Practically every locker room is roses and chocolates when everything is going great. Nonetheless, there is something to not have a roster full of head cases and divas. Much easier to get along with and care about teammates you like and respect.

Murphy’s choices are pretty limited when the front office decided at the deadline that a bench that includes Siegler and Monasterio was sufficient to provide options off the bench and backups in case one of the infield starters got injured. Or that there were no better options that they were willing to pay for with prospects.

Monasterio .260 is playing great for a bench guy, I have zero problems with him.  My personal cutoff is .200  if your below that you should be scrutinized very closely if you have a fair amount of at bats which to me is about 30

What got me yesterday was only needing 3 outs to secure the W.

We not only let the tying run score, we let the winning run score, b4 we could get 3 outs.

That's not gonna fly in the post season regardless of how we get in and who we play!

You can’t win if you have a bad closer.   Period.

Leta hope this is a blip

And in Megill's defense: Trevor has been used 9 times from July 4 to July 24 plus the times he warmed up and wasn't even used.  He is going to end up like Devin Williams if things don't change soon. Megill is not a bad closer unless you use him to much which may be the case right now. Megill's ERA is 2.54 today even counting yesterday.

Oh by the way Megill has pitched 46 innings this year // Misiorowski 38.2 to put things in perspective.

If you wanted to put things in perspective, a better comparison would be Megill versus other top closers...

Carlos Estevez
34 SV | 57.1 IP

Robert Suarez
34 SV | 55.1 IP

Trevor Megill
30 SV | 46.0 IP

Andres Munoz
30 SV | 50.0 IP

Josh Hader
28 SV | 52.2 IP

Jeff Hoffman
28 SV | 54.0 IP

Emilio Pagan
25 SV | 54.1 IP

Aroldis Chapman
24 SV | 50.0 IP

Edwin Diaz
24 SV | 49.0 IP

Kyle Finnegan
24 SV | 49.2 IP

Emmanuel Clase
24 SV | 47.1 IP
(hasn't pitched in a month)

Kenley Jansen
23 SV | 49.0 IP

Jhoan Duran
23 SV | 57.0 IP

Raisel Iglesias
22 SV | 54.2 IP

Pete Fairbanks
22 SV | 48.1 IP

Ryan Helsley
21 SV | 43.1 IP

Considering you have to go all the way down to the guy who is 16th in saves before you reach someone with fewer IP than Megill its hard for me to say workload has been an issue with Trevor when the other top closers all have more innings than he does.

So don't cry about Trevor Megill then when he blows a save because from your list:

Carlos Estevez, Robert Suarez, Jeff Hoffman, Emilio Pepan, Ryan Helsley, Pete Fairbanks, Raisel Iglesias, Kenley Jansen, Emmanuel Clase and Kyle Finnegan, all have higher ERA's than Trevor Megill.  My point was he needs a fragging break!  He is way more important than your comparing every best closer in the MLB to Megill for the whole year.  Than being overused as of late as Megill is.

Welp they found a way. The only shoe left to drop is swapping Easton McGee for Gasser come Friday

pinch-hitting Siegler for Durbin was the right call. Just didn't work out. Both are mediocre options against good pitching.

IMO Durbin a tad more clutch than Siegler.
