Interesting that Mono is getting in games at first base instead of Hoskins. Even more proof that he's not going on playoff roster.

Hoskins is washed up.

If it wasn't for that double play, Mears would've come in to pitch. Now we have him fresh for tomorrow.

Maybe. LHH up after Herrera, then Arenado. But not having to run Mears out there tonight is a great point.

I wish I knew the story there

The story is he is slower than molasses and can't hit anymore.

Pyrrhic" is an adjective meaning achieved at too great a cost, or so costly it negates the benefits, most often used in the phrase "Pyrrhic victory" to describe a triumph that ultimately brings ruin to the victor. The term originates from King Pyrrhus of Epirus, whose victories against the Romans at the Battles of Heraclea and Asculumwere devastating, costing him so many troops that he famously said another such victory would "utterly undo him".

Thanks for explaining that & saving me the trouble. I was about to type the same thing.

I assume better defense late with the lead

The first is undoubtedly true but the second is still a question because he hasn't seen the batter's box in a good long while. Maybe after we clinch.

OMG - Someone needs to pinch me and wake me up from this great dream I have been having about the Brewers since late May.

Today, he ran for Vaughn, has played 1B before & is a better defender than Hoskins. So leaving him in at 1B is a no-brainer.

As to the playoff roster you may be right. But there is most likely going to be 16 position players on the PS roster. If you're dipping that deeply & not including Hoskins you're talking a 3rd catcher, or bringing Seigler back. I don't think it's a slam dunk at this point.

If we don't see Hoskins getting at least some ABs this week, that should verify it.

It's literally just because he pinch ran for Vaughn.  They're not going to waste a position player to only pinch run.

Just saw that Dodgers catcher Will Smith, who has been out with what they thought was a bone bruise on his hand has now been diagnosed with a hairline fracture and may be out for at least the start of the playoffs.

Hopefully Contreras won’t follow that path.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Just to add, Tyler Black is swinging the bat well. Who the 'last guy' on the bench is, is NOT an easy call.

Hoskins doesn’t fit this team.    He can’t play any other position.   We already have that with Vaughn.   Then watch the at bats that Vaughn had tonight.    He fits the team way better than Hoskins.    Bauers is going to make the team.   Hoskins is useless to this team.   I wish him well

And he was used as a pinch runner for Vaughn so no need to use 2 players ……you save Hoskins for later if needed.

as soon as Vaughn got on and they went with Mona you knew what they were going to do…….i will say I was surprised they didn’t use Perkins to run and move Bauers to first…..would have seemed to make more sense to me……but it worked out.
