Would this be the worst loss in franchise history? I would say yes. Losing game 7 to the Dodgers in 2018 was no fun but losing to Cubs under these circumstances would be beyond brutal.

No. That's Game 7 of the World Series. They had a 3-1 lead in the mid 6th. Recency bias just can't erase that.

2018 hurt, but I never thought we'd get by the Red Sox that year.

2011 you can make a strong case we had the best team in baseball, but we never even pushed to a Game 7, so...I would place this loss 2nd worst ever. The context makes it a lot worse, even though the stakes are lower.

When you have a Game 7 loss in a World Series in your franchise history, nothing is gonna be worse than that.

I think this would be on par with the 2018 loss.

Until late in the game yesterday the Cubs didn't have any offense outside of the 1st inning during the series. Saturday is basically a coin flip looking at all the high level stuff. We dominated game 1 and 2, game 3 was close and got hammered yesterday so I'm not worried more than it's one game between 2 evenly matched teams.

For me the missed opportunities I look at the 8th inning of game 3. I'm pretty confident that if we just tie the game at that point we find a way to win, because up to that point the only Cubs offense was the first inning and we still had solid arms to use if the game goes into extras, and after those first 2 games I'd imagine letting the score get tied again would be pretty deflating.

pretty spot on.    Other top consideration would be game 6 in 1982.   Game to clinch the Championship and get smoked.   If nitpicking, probably have to put that 2 I guess just due to the weight of it

To be fair, many of us aren’t the like 60+ years old that it would take to care about the 1982 run. I suppose it is the worst in franchise history…but to what is becoming a majority of fans, it is kinda meaningless.

Although I'm in that boat and was born after it, I think that's a pretty gross simplification. Diehards born around 1975 likely have at least some memory of that loss. That's somebody who is 50 today. That's a lot of people.

Yeah I'm 55 and have horribly vivid memories of that loss.

That and the Packers playoff melt down in Seattle haunt me

The point stands though. There are now 3 generations that wouldn’t really associate  with 1982 at all.

The only reason I feel some of that nostalgia is because of rain delays in the 2005-2015 era. Lol

Good morning, fellow fanatics. I have had something come up which makes it impossible for me to attend tomorrow. 4 tickets in 229 and a preferred parking pass. Face value plus fees.

still available.

My preferred order for starting pitchers:

1) Uribe. I know. People are going to think this is nuts. But the guy's probably got the best stuff, and he's thrown one inning all series. It's so important for us to put up a zero early. Let's see if he can get six outs. Megill can close. Priester can try to close. Mears, Koenig, we've got options.

2) Patrick. He's pitched well. He's comfortable starting. Run him out there. I'm a little worried about his usage, but it's Game 5, and he gives a good chance at a zero. Heck, a 1-run first would be progress.

3) Miz. Imagine the electricity if he's on his game. Whoa.

4) Priester. Give the kid another shot. He'll be at home, eager to redeem himself.

5) Anyone else.

Not sure what Murph will do. But this will be a fun game. Let the better team win, and may it be us.

Adding to my earlier comparison to 2011, that year I was cautiously optimistic about the Brewers winning Game 5 because of the home field and crowd and the fact that Gallardo had shut down the DBacks in Game 1. But I was anxious that a loss would wipe out what had been the Brewers best season since 1982.

Today I am essentially resigned to the fact that the Brewers will lose tomorrow, very possibly in a blow out reminiscent of the final game of the 2011 NLCS when Roenicke insisted on starting Marcum, even though he hadn't been effective for several weeks. I am also more jaded about the Brewers ability to advance in the playoffs. The scars from 2021 run pretty deep., The Brewers appeared to have a dominant pitching staff that could lead them through the playoffs, but the bats went completely silent after scratching out a first game win over the Braves.

I know that unexpected things happen in baseball all the time. But this one seems very unlikely. My gloomy mood is also affected by the realization that the Brewers patchwork pitching staff and woodpecker offense, which is struggling to make it through 5 games in 8 days against the Cubs, will be no match for the now healthy Dodgers.

I'm completely shocked

But the question was "worst lost" not the one with the most emotional impact.

Objectively, 1982 was a worse loss than any since even if its a distant memory for some with out the pain.

I was not around for WW II but I can objectively state that that was a worse war than those since then even though emotionally the recent wars have effected me to a much greater extent.

Honestly I just don’t really care, not that I’m apathetic to winning this game of course, but you could make a case that every starting pitching decision they made this series made some sense, and none of them worked out.

So at this point, whatever, none or all of them make some sense. I guess if you had to pin me down for an answer I might go with Koenig to open, but more out of just random left handedness when nothing else worked, I don’t really care that much. You’d think we could get through one clean first inning in 5 games but here we are.

Would you take a guaranteed win tomorrow if you knew it meant we’d get swept in the NLCS? I honestly think I would.

Nah. That's giving up an awful lot even if our odds of winning tomorrow are like 10%. Plus there's nothing enjoyable about "guaranteed" wins.

I also don't think starting Uribe is nuts. He's exactly who I'd go with. I don't care who closes the game, I've seen how that movie ends with our "closer," I would just stick with the guy who pitched the 8th if it's somebody who can still throw.

Meh. This opinion is probably about 80% of the fanbase at the moment, and you can't blame anybody for feeling like it. Most of the attendees tomorrow night are probably expecting a Brewers loss.

Bold prediction: Ortiz comes up with a huge hit. I haven't decided if it's going to be a bases-loaded single in the mid-innings or walk-off homer in the 9th.

Looking at it from this side of the fence, I do not want the Brewers to start Miz. Yes, he has slipped as of late, I don't think he knows where his pitches will end up sometimes, he is a rookie and there will be some major butterflies in his stomach for the first inning of a winners take all game, especially if Cubs fans show up int bunches at American Family Field(we call it Wrigley North), but the Cubs have had trouble all year facing heat and I think its imperative for us to score first to keep the weight of the world on the Brewers shoulders. I would rather see any other pitcher start than Miz... preferably Gasser😁

Brewer fans better show up and be loud. It does matter.

I think the Cubs fans take over tomorrow.   I think deep down a majority of Brewers fans know what’s about to happen.  We’ve lived it for so long.

Murph is going to decide this by looking into his players eyes and seeing who looks ready. That's only half a joke.
