I must be in the minority. I LOVE this game of attrition and how it affects the rest of the series.

Absolutely. Love the Manfred runner in the regular season and I love even more that they ditch it in the postseason.

Maybe Schneider will pull his head out of his ass and not pinch run for literally everyone.  Kiner-Falefa I get for defense and Bichette is just coming back from injury but my God, imagine having Kirk with Barger on deck in the 18th instead of Heineman with Straw on deck.  He just couldn't wait to go pinch runner anytime someone got on base and the one time it actually mattered, his pinch runner got thrown out by 20 feet.

Could you imagine the Brewers in an 18 inning game?  We would have had to put in Jake Bauers by the 13th inning because we ran out of pitchers.

Unfortunate the Jays lost because Lauer's performance will be lost to history. Absolutely amazing stuff.

That 2022 season was sooo good from him. No clue what happened in 2023 but Im glad he got his mojo back

I went to bed after the Jays batted in the top of the ninth. I didn't need to see the inevitable Dodger walkoff.

I wasn't wrong, technically...

Shohei Ohtani's nine times on base in 18 innings are the most ever in a single postseason game, surpassing the previous record of six.

These late WS games are not good for the brand, or their viewership.

Imagine the SB ending at 1:30am with a work-day starting @ 7:00am

It's not something we would want to happen on a regular basis, but everyone is talking about the game today. Managers forced to use their entire roster. Unsung heroes. Records broken. It was great for baseball. I'm glad it still happens every now and then.

I agree, It was great, too bad MOST of the fans were fast asleep way b4 the ending..

Seriously though ..... if you go to bed during the work week at 11pm (which is late for MOST folks), you would have had to stay up for 3 MORE HOURS to see the end.

They really need the ghost runner on 2nd in extras, for several reasons already discussed.

I do not agree with this, and I went to bed after the 16th in Alaska time zone.  If the game goes late, oh well.  I decided I didn't need to stay up to see the Dodgers inevitably walk it off.  Heck of a game though.  I'm glad it wasn't decided with some goofy new rule.

What exactly is your complaint? The game started at 7p CT. Under normal circumstances that would finish by 10p.

The Super Bowl isn't a 6 hour game. If viewership drops off, oh well, but I guarantee you a ton of people across the country (especially in LA) stayed up to watch this. Forcing an early end (e.g., Manfred runner) to mollify people that want to go to bed doesn't make sense to me at all.

And I don't agree with you.

See how easy that is ??

There is no right or wrong, these are opinions that we all are entitled to post.

Several seem to think my opinion is wrong, but it's not.

You may think the ghost runner on 2nd is "goofy", but it's not.

I couldn’t imagine the corny Manfred Runner being a thing in the playoffs. Much like I couldn’t imagine the NHL doing 3on3 and a shootout in the playoffs.

I’m glad both of those leagues have the sense to have rules to make the games shorter in the regular season then get rid of them for the postseason.

None of your math adds up.

You're saying the 1st 9 innings was 3 hours, and the 2nd 9 innings was 4 1/2 hours ???

Staying up in LA til 12:30am is ok I guess.

2:30am here were we live central time. No way!

3:30 in the flippin morning east of Lake Michigan. C'mon  (what country was the game in lol?)

Now it's your opinion to think that that's a good idea ..........  but I sure the heck don't.

ps - I had to Google mollify - too big of a word for me.  (3:30am not too late)

mol·li·fy
/ˈmäləˌfī/
pronunciation.svg
verb

  1. appease the anger or anxiety of (someone).
"nature reserves were set up around the power stations to mollify local conservationists"

Thank you for the clarification.  As to the bolded part, professional baseball was just fine without the ghost runner for 151 years.  I think it would be a real travesty to shoehorn this hokey rule into postseason play.  It's bad enough we have to live with it during the regular season now.

The time of the game was 6 hours 39 minutes. I didn't say this game specifically the 10th inning of this game began at 10pm, what I said was "Under normal circumstances that would finish by 10p." That's an accurate statement. Game times have been well under 3 hours since the pitch clock.

Whether it's 10:00, 10:20, whatever. If the game had been 9 innings, it would have been over at a reasonable time. The only people that lose in a long extra inning game are those that are put out because they didn't get to see the end. For everyone else it's just bonus baseball, bonus eyeballs on TVs, etc. My life is the better for seeing some epic performances from random Joes like Will Klein to GOATs like Shoehei and Freddie. I'll trade some sleep for that any day. (And it's fine if you disagree, you just get to choose to go to bed. :))

You might be the only baseball fan on the planet with that opinion 🤣

The Manfred runner is almost universally despised by baseball fans but has perhaps gained some reluctant acceptance as a necessary evil in the regular season. Almost nobody actually likes it though.

I was at the 15 inning Det-Sea ALDS game a few weeks ago. For that elimination game to be ended by the Manfred runner would have been an absolute travesty. Every single fan stayed to the end and I think that one was a 5 hour game.

FWIW, every person in my circle is a big fan of the ghost runner.  I think all of us thought we'd hate it, but once it happened realized its good.  Basically you have action every extra inning.  I've actually never met a person in real life who hates/despises it.

I'd also say that everyone I know is in agreeance with it not being a part of the postseason.

That's because you are exceptional.

Both teams get the same runner, (it's not lopsided)

I agree with you ALL 100 % about the ghost runner !!! (it's stupid, and I wasn't the one to bring it up)

My argument is that the GAME should have started at 3pm LA time

(so the rest of the flippin country can watch it).

No one has yet to argue with me that 3am is ridiculous.

How can you possibly say that and be of sound mind? 🤣
