With so many teams already hurting for pitching is there a obvious trade partner in say like a month if Preister comes back healthy? I would think it would be easy to swap Preister for Sproat but with Gasser and Henderson in AAA it seems like we could capitalize on our depth with an early trade. Obviously this would mean everyone stays healthy up until that point. I like having as much depth as possible but with guys like Crow, Kuehner, and others I think we could capitalize on trading someone like Henderson (Sproat or Gasser) to a pitching desperate team. I though we gave up a lot last year for Preister (in hindsight prospect haven't done much) and someone like Henderson could have a decent amount more in terms of value. Maybe in a month there is a hole in the big league roster that could be fixed. However with the mlb offensive depth being ok for now I think it could be a good option to just get a handful of high potential younger prospects maybe similar to the Shane Baz return. I get that it wouldn't help the big league team this year but keeping to many mlb ready guys in AAA doesn't help either.

Our pitching depth always seems deeper than it really is.  I think we need all of it to get through the season. We needed 14 different starters (not including "openers") to make it through last year. Plus several "BP games".

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I love our depth because they are all controlled, so no reason to move them. Guys like DL Hall haven't shown they can stay healthy, so even in the pen, Gasser could instantly fill that role if Hall were to go down. Sproat stuff is there, but if you ever need to flip him to AAA and give Henderson starts, I don't think you'll hesitate. I think there is a path for every young arm to have an impact this season. Wouldn't be shocked to see one of Gasser/Crow to start on Wednesday (edit: they just called up Drohan so maybe not). There will always be injuries, unfortunately, and it wouldn't shock me to see Murph move to a 6-man rotation in the second half of the season if that luxury is there to try to get some length out of these guys in a hypothetical post-season run.

All this being said, come deadline time, if there is a move to make, we have the ammo to make it.

Yes do not trade MLB ready starting pitching depth unless they are running low on options so maybe Carlos Rodriguez gets traded this year though not sure he has much value.

This is a no. We have bodies. We dont have 165IP starters. Priester was the one to count on 165IP. He has just as much as chance to return as I'd assume needing TJ and not returning for 15months yet. We need the depth. Trade deadline moves will be needed.

What if we traded like Henderson and Drohan for Shane McLanahan or Drew Ramussen (assuming health) in like June. I believe the Rays are going to struggle all year and likely would trade Diaz and the 2 pitchers. In this scenario we trade 2 arms for a proven pitcher with control through 2027.

We just made a trade using our starting pitching depth when we trade Peralta and then added Meyers. I really don't like giving up Myers... but seeing Sproat, even with his warts thus far, I'm more encouraged.

But I wouldn't be looking to trade away more. Unless you're concerned Logan Henderson can't hold up... or you could get a real impact arm. Grant Taylor was the guy I was really interested in. Not sure why the CHW would trade him unless... they don't think he can start(and I believe he's only throwing out of the pen right now) and you're looking for more "value." I'd do Henderson and Drohan for him.

I may be underestimating Henderson though. He feels like a guy who won't hold up and I don't really have a good reason for saying that. He's not much different from Peralta's profile. He's just not a 6'3+ 220LB+ pitcher. I think he would be best served in a role similar to Hall or Ashby... but vs RHPer. Not sure he'll ever give you 170IP(feels like 200IP ~20 years ago).

Outside of a... legit RHed bat, a... Braun type, adding a HL reliever would be my biggest priority. Someone with team control. But that's a priority beceause we have depth elsewhere.

We've traded 3 strong or at least integral pitchers since the end of last season (Peralta, Myers, Mears) and got unproven guys in return.  On top of that, some of who we were counting on are injured (Priester, Rob Z., Koenig, & Yoho).  The idea of trading from our pitching depth, especially right now, seems highly misguided.  Heck, Henderson's been nothing but good in his limited MLB time.  He's the sort of guy this team's been good at finding, and is exactly the type you don't look to find reasons to trade away.
