Players need to be back playing.   And if we are paying a dude $50 million.     He probably should be playing too.   If he’s worth that money than get freaking Ortiz out of here for godsakes

We're not paying a dude $50M this year.

And what does "players need to be back playing" even mean?

Tough one so far. Nice to get game 1 because the other two pitching matchups were going to be a toss-up and a Red Sox advantage.

Lots of baseball left today, but hard to complain about a 3-3 opening roadie and an 8-4 start given the way of March/April baseball.

I feel like expectations got too high for Drohan after spring training. At the end of the day he was a 27 year old career minor leaguer. A throw in. The real prize of the deal was Kyle Harrison and it is looking like a substantial fleece by Arnold and Co. He probably will still be a solid pen arm for us this year when DL inevitably ends up on the IL.

I remember when people were verbatim saying this about Durbin last year. He's a Top 30 prospect in our system. He's not some bum.

You want Pratt in our MLB lineup right now?

We are paying him like a major leaguer.    We aren’t the dodgers.    If he’s that good then play him.   Ortiz sucks

Why?

I dunno. Because.

Seriously, many balls that go for hits nowadays would've been called errors back in the day. Pressure on official scorers from hitters who want their number$$$$ inflated for $ome $trange rea$on? Maybe just more of an overall fascination with offensive numbers? I'm not disagreeing with you that Hamilton could've made the play. It's just been the trend.

I think we come back and win this game. The Sonny diet of curveballs should get us hits on the 3rd time through. No doubt that we are not getting real production from Rengifo and the ‘second stringers’ so if Murph can stop setting us up for mediocrity, we can win a series like this!

Injuries not helping either.
If they lose today, it just puts the NL Central where it usually is- very competitive and every game counts. Reds are gunning for 1st.

Again just being realistic with expectations. I am 100% certain he is gonna be a positive value pitcher for the Brewers at some point and in some role. Never called him a bum. At the end of the day he is making his debut at 27. That says a lot. I believe Jack Stern was the one saying he was the main get in the Durbin trade. I disagreed at the time and disagree now. Getting Drohan as a throw in was just the cherry on top of a beautiful fleece job. I may be biased though since I have been fascinated by Kyle Harrison since he was first with the Giants.

Becoming obvious that missing Chourio and Turang simultaneously (and Contreras today on his day game day off) is just going to be too much for the bats to overcome more often than not.  I get the logic of sitting Yelich against lefties at times and Contreras as load management on a day game after a night game, but it does feel like the Brewers have played the last 13 innings with one arm tied behind their back.

Turang is out, the bench is Matos, Perkins, Contreras, what would you have him do? He had to let Drohan try to get some outs.

I count 7 "balls" that clipped the zone in Drohan's 2.2 innings of work.  Sanchez successfully overturned one of those seven.

What's the website that grades each ump's performance behind the plate?

Unfortunately this is probably accurate.  I thought Murphy's decision to leave Mis in as long as he did (i.e., to load the bases) yesterday was pretty stupid, but put in a little more context letting Drohan wear a 3 spot in the 3rd a day later is much more excusable even when it doesn't get him through to the 5th in the end.  They're in a little bit of a pinch the last 72 hours or so.

Joey just isn't a major league hitter and I'm not sure that Hamilton will be the answer and Pratt isn't ready so I guess it is what it is, but it's gotta kill Murph to routinely watch Ortiz take meatballs and swing at junk.
