Let's not act like Chourio isn't an incredibly frustrating hitter that leaves you wanting more.

He at least can create some runs. He was showing a little improvement with swing decisions too,

I wonder if Murphy or Vog ever tells him to stop swinging like a fool?

I mean, it's kind of their job, right?

If you’re swinging so hard your helmet either falls off or almost falls off every AB you’re doing something wrong.

Frelick looked like he was more worried about not grounding into a double play than he was about trying to win the game.

He keeps on trying to pull everything since game one of the season.  He has been one of the worst hitters on the Brewers so far this year.  I would put Frelick below Ortiz and just above Regnifo, Lockridge and Perkins.

All we are doing with the line-up is stirring a big pot of sh*t stew.

The guys we are playing aren't going to figure things out suddenly (Ortiz, Perkins, Lockridge, Rengifo, Frelick,)they are who they are, they simply need to be replaced, but that can't happen either, at least, not yet.

We need that pipeline to start paying off, but it's just too early.

It’s too early in the season to dread watching baseball. Hopefully we get our injured players back soon & play better baseball. This week hasn’t been much fun.

Correct, and the Brewers still are only 1 game out of 1st place.

Checks box score for Nashville for our top infield prospects. Williams .512 OPS, Pratt .473 OPS, Wilken .330 OPS, Closes computer.

On the other hand, Made 1.022 OPS and Burke 1,139 OPS in Biloxi. 🙂

I was irritated in the off-season that the Brewers traded their best SP and did nothing to improve the offense.

While other teams that think they are contenders make moves to improve themselves in the off-season, the Brewers make themselves worse while accumulating a strong minor league system.

Maybe at some point they need to trade some of these great prospects to get some proven major league hitting.

We hear about the great depth of pitching in the organization but most of them seem to be bottom of the rotation starters at best when they aren’t injured. And they are often injured.

If the poster who responded to my post the other day with the comment that Chourio and Vaughn are not that much better than the players currently playing is correct, this is going to be a long season.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

It’s clear this lineup is filled a pre-lockout players.  They are simply inexpensive place holders that will help them keep costs down leading up to December. When baseball returns in 2029-2030, most will be long gone and likely out of baseball completely.

just a few of my completely biased and uninformed observations

*it feels like opposing hitters have been unusually patient against us

*we've had a lot of bad luck on hard hit balls(until the last few games, when we just don't hit anything)

Looks a lot like many of the in-game threads from last April & May. You know, the year they won 97 games? And I'm NOT saying they're better, worse, or the same as last season. I AM saying that if that team can play mediocre baseball through one-third of the season, I'm pretty sure this group (or anyone else) is susceptible to the same. Especially when they lean left-handed & proceed to lose two RHHs right off the bat.

Tonight, Sproat wasn't great IMO, but he was much better so that's a positive.

Ortiz vs the RHP was a better matchup than Hamilton vs the lefty, which is what Washington would've gone to. A great matchup? No. But a better one. Unless you wanted Matos vs the righty, and he isn't even picking up the baseball when a lefty is throwing.

Ashby still hasn't thrown back-to-back days, even though he's more than capable of it. But the stale jokes continue to be rolled out. Worst part is, I wouldn't be surprised if at some point this year he has an IL stint; in 2024 almost 80% of the IL cases were pitchers. And if/when that happens, OMG. Malpractice. Murphy doesn't know what he's doing. Why does he get used EVERY DAY??? (never mind that he doesn't). They currently have four pitchers on the 40-man that are on the IL, and I'm pretty sure none of them are there due to their arms falling off from overuse. Pitchers put an amazing amount of strain on their legs, their shoulder, elbow, wrist, etc. Often they get hurt. It happens. I just hope that gets kept in mind if it happens w/Ashby.

Schroeder & Anderson mentioned this weekend how the Nats seem to be taking a page out of the Brewers' book regarding their approach and yeah, other teams have also done a terrific job of not chasing, so I agree.

I think Rengifo has had rotten batted-ball luck. Not that he hasn't had bad ABs but he's hit 6-7 balls hard that were caught. That's stuck out to me; not sure about the rest of the team.

Without Chourio this offense is one of the least likable ones in the past 5 years. Rengifo, Perkins, Ortiz, all are not everyday players. Without the glove I don't think Ortiz even plays in Korea at this point.

I don't think Chourio alone is going to make much of a difference once he's back. There's just too many holes in this offense.

We are -0.2 bWAR at LF and -0.3 bWAR in RF this season. Chourio will fill one of those holes. Frelick will improve. I think we need more Hamilton at 3B.

Look, the Pratt extension is definitely never going to *hurt* is.

Still, his bat deficiencies make it really hard to get excited about him compared to the usual young minor league guys who get the big extension.

I agree that the Pratt extension almost certainly will make business sense. I think we overlook how good Pratt’s numbers in Biloxi were because Southern League is tough on hitters. Pratt’s 2025 wasn’t great but it was pretty good.
