Patrick was dominant as a short reliever in the playoffs.  The Brewers have young starters waiting for opportunities (Henderson, Gasser, Crow, etc) that could replace him in the rotation where he's just another guy.  Bullpens need to be refreshed every year.  Injuries and performance can vary widely with bullpen arms as we are now seeing.  Patrick is a guy who's shown he can handle big time pressure situations and get outs.

Gasser is hurt. Henderson will be up at some point, but I think he needs to be stretched out more. His start during the DH wasn't great. I think the Brewers just need to let Uribe close and let Megill pitch more less stressful innings to get his confidence back. The Brewers don't really have great bullpen options. Zerba has struggled too. Honestly, if the brewers don't want to give the job to Uribe, I'd give it Ashby.

I'm not sure Patrick is "just another guy" in the rotation.  And I'm not convinced that Henderson is better than Patrick.  Both have some issues getting through a third time in the rotation, so I can get the interest in moving to the BP, but I'm not sure this is the time.

Gasser pitched on April 10th and threw 60+ pitches so unless he didn’t recover well, he’s not injured anymore and is likely to pitch again for Nashville in the next day or two.

This is basically my thought as well, except that I'd keep Patrick in the rotation, and put the kids in the 'pen. Push Ashby/Hall up the pecking order, and let the kids piggy-back with Harrison/Sproat/Miz.

He’s a top 2 pitcher in our rotation and at times I’m not sure he’s #2.

Weakening our rotation isn’t the answer to our bullpen problems.

I'd much rather take the bullpen first path with Gasser, Henderson and Crow rather than the guy who looks like a really good starter and at times gives us the most length of our starters.

Chad Patrick feels like a starting pitcher to me too. We've got quite a few fringe types in the system, as well as some decent relievers on the IL. Patrick was awesome in the playoffs last year. He's earned his spot.

Patrick (trolling BF.net): I'll show those arm-chair no-nothings a thing or two! 😏

Actually think Patrick in the bullpen would really help stabilize the bullpen. However, too many question marks right now in the starting rotation. Have to see if this is really a short term injury for Harrison, Sproat has a lot to prove and never know with Woodruff. Don't think the Brewers can count on Henderson and Gasser to come up and start every 5 days with their injury history as well.

Have to see if this is really a short term injury for Harrison,

I was out of town last weekend and pretty much out of contact, so I didn't know anything about a Harrison injury until I read this. Was holding my breath as I searched for info. Whew.

Other than that, how did the series with the Nats go?

Milwaukee must have really worn out the Nationals over the weekend because the Pirates are looking to sweep Washington today. 🙂

Confusing... Both teams had "Ws" on their hats so it was hard to tell who to root for...
