I guess this is why you run-prevent. So you can be no-hit thru seven & still be in the game. So one or two mistakes by the opposition are one or two too many.

The boot by Wynn was huge, as was the botched defense on the Rengifo bunt. Given what we were trying to accomplish it was an excellent bunt, but the Cards really played it into a base hit. They get the out at 1st & it looks quite likely we don't score. But that takes nothing away from huge knocks by Mitchell & Yelich. You can see the confidence starting to ooze from #5.

Damn, was May good. Late-breaking sweep & cutter, put-it-right-where-I-want-to command, and just enough chasing & early swings from the Brewers to augment it. No-hit stuff.

I brought up Elroy Face a couple weeks ago. Eighteen wins out of the Pittsburgh BP in '59. Ashby could go the next 28 games w/o a win & be on the same pace.

I was thinking about "run-prevention" after this one too.

This team has sort of combined the 2018 "out-getters" approach with the 2021/2023, where you just hope Tellez or somebody got into one and you could Burnes and bullpen your way to a 3-2 win.

The offense has nowhere near the thump of 2018, but I love the approach from the pitching and defense side. And the lineup is closer to very good than many here would like to believe. 

All of which is to say: I like this team. I think they could be pretty darn good. As always, it's baseball, but there's a lot to like about these guys.

Having all the offense happen in the 8th, to match Abner's 8th inning last night, is proof that Abner's behavior has the blessing of the baseball gods. Even they hate the Cardinals.

Agreed and it's not as if it would be terribly expensive to shore up the right side of the infield or just promote guys that are likely to be as good or better.

I would still like another reliever and another starter (not anyone expensive, just decent).  Replacing Woodford with a good reliever could make a big difference.

Turang has in fact never challenged a pitch call. Gary has challenged 16. The rest of the team has challenged 18 combined.

i'm late to the party, but anyone else think that one ball was gone off the bat possibly, in the 9th inning off megill with like one out?

Completely. Not quite as ripped as a few others today (maybe just got it a little up on the barrel), but if I hadn't have seen the "in play, out(s)" on Gameday before the TV feed, my heart would've skipped for sure.

It just wasn't carrying today. Cardinals had another like that in third, 103 mph off-the-bat and to right field. Like Lane (might have been Josh) said on the radio call, those usually leave the yard.

I thought Chourio really mashed his in the sixth--104 off-the-bat. Pretty routine fly ball.

It's a little bit strange to be rooting for those kinds of low run-environment conditions as a Brewer fan, but I think they definitely favor this team's style, both last year and (so far) this one.

You kind of wonder if some guys are just better off not worrying about it. Hitting is such a timing and focus thing, having the challenge in the back of your mind might not work well for everyone. When tennis had challenges, it messed with some players more than others.

I wasn't watching on TV but on gameday it scared the hell out of me.
