28-year-old right-hander Dustin May gets the start for the Cardinals. I wasn't aware of the life-threatening injury he suffered in 2024 from an errant bite of salad. I'm glad he's okay. On the baseball front, May is allowing a 49.1% hard-hit rate this season. His fastball averages 96.8 mph, but his breaking stuff hasn't been effective.

Milwaukee is still TBD. Maybe Patrick or Hall?

On April 25th the Pirates beat the Brewers 6 to 3 in ten innings dropping Milwaukee to a season worst 13 W - 13 L and fifth place in the NLC, 4.5 games behind the Reds in first place.

Since then? The Brewers 19 W - 7 L record is tied with TBR for the best in MLB with PHI (19 W - 9 L) and ATL (18 W - 9 L) the only other teams losing fewer than eleven games over that stretch. They currently have a 3.5 game lead on the rest of the NLC.

Here are some of their MLB best pitching marks during this stretch with second place in parentheses following...

2.41 ERA (TBR 2.43)
2.68 FIP (PHI 3.03)
2.74 xERA (PHI 3.23)
29.5 K% (PHI 26.4)
0.50 HR9 (NYY 0.73)
.187 AVG (ATL .197)
1.05 WHIP (LAD 1.10)
7.7 rWAR (PHI 6.8)
6.2 fWAR (PHI 5.9)

All told the pitching staff has allowed three or fewer runs in 20 of these last 26 games.

The position players come in with a 108 wRC+ (5th) scoring 5.0 R/G (3rd) despite only hitting 18 HR (30th) and posting a .120 isolated slugging (28th). Their +2.14 Win Probability Added and 2.08 Clutch Score are both best in MLB over these last 26 games.

Those bottom line results aren't too far off what the Brewers posted for the whole 2025 season with a 107 wRC+ (9th) and 4.98 R/G (3rd).

Well let's go for the win and a lead of at least 4 full games, hang on with the Astros over the weekend, and with the dawn of June after that hope for a little roster movement to try and give the solid offensive numbers for the team a little boost from the bottom of the roster

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Have to think based on the reliever chart above that Patrick is either going to start, or DL Hall will be an opener with Patrick covering a minimum of 4 innings and Hall/Patrick needing to combine for at least six.

A sweep would be nice but winning the series is good enough.    The only way I would be pissed is if we blow a ninth inning lead or something like that

If Abner needs to close out the game today that will be must see tv.

I might not put him on the mound today if the choices were him and Bauers.

Patrick it is, same lineup as yesterday. I realize Mitchell hit a homer yesterday, but also Vaughn needs to play more than 1 out of 3 games. Can we just move Chourio to RF?

What do we like as our rotation going forward for the next couple weeks? Patrick today and going forward makes sense, I like the idea of Drohan piggybacking with either Patrick or Crow for at least a couple starts and then being a 6th starter (i think we play 13 in a row coming up). Sproat probably keeps going but is maybe looking like a good option as a 2/3 inning reliever if he can't get the big inning out of his system.

Misi, Harrison, Patick, Crow, Drohan, Sproat  ??? If Woody get healthy/right in a couple weeks he could slide into any of the 3-6 spots.

If LaRussa and Yost were managing there would be 8 beanballs today.

Fortunately it sounds like these 2 managers aren't children.

Only the closer is.
