Then we’re well past the point where he should be getting sent to the pen. Burnes got 4 starts in 2019 before getting demoted, Sproat has gotten 9.

I remember Burnes being a highly regarded prospect though.  Has Sproat ever been?  Seemed like a “‘ second piece or “throw in” to me with Jett being the headliner.

we have a glaring opportunity for jet to show the trading Peralta was worth it.  I know. Willy hasn’t been an all start this far, but a durable starter putting up a 350 ERA would be really valuable for the Brewers right now.

Not if you jettison Rengifo and call up Williams 😁

Make it so.  Murphy will give Rengifo another 300 abs if we let him.  I love the culture Murph brings to our team, but he can only play the players that we give him.  Right now we have almost 10 players that don’t really bring any value to this roster.

Top 100 guy, IIRC.

Look, the guy is struggling to locate, but the stuff is there. It's silly to say he doesn't have good stuff; he's just not sure how to harness or use it.

Maybe he's our new Andrew Chafen if we have to punt the game.

Did I call the punt or what?

Why are Murphy's favorite players on the team the ones that contribute nothing?

Random teams scoring 7 8 9 14 runs today. 10 also. Teams are hitting the ball all over the place. Brewers get no hit for 7 innings and scatch out a win. Signs of trouble. Don't believe the hype. This team is in some trouble.

When Murphy said that sproat is really impressing his manager the other day, I wanted to throw things.  Yes he can throw 100 mph, but he can’t get anybody out.

Well, I am not convinced that this guy is a major league pitcher, let’s move them to the bullpen and instruct him to throw strikes and get guys out by throwing gas.

If he can add value in that role, awesome.  That makes it easier to use Patrick in the rotation.  But they’re simply is no reason to give sprout any more starts at the expense of Patrick starting ( I fully realize we’ll likely be starting Sproat now every 5th day until some of our injured guys are back)

Well I guess Rodriguez showed us something

He did. He showed us, as he almost always does, that he is not a major league caliber pitcher.

Murphy came down very hard on Sproat after the game. Interesting decision after giving him a big vote of confidence after his last start

He did?  7 baseunners in 3ish innings and 3 runs?

While sporting a 91ish MPH straight fastball. His stuff does not excite me.

This team is built to win over the course of 162 however has no real chance at beating the Dodgers in the playoffs.  First or second round exit at best.  They’re in desperate need to cut dead weight and add some punch.

Gotta disagree completley on this.

Last year we had a bunch of decent pitchers (2-4s) without a dependable, solid ace. This year we have two 1s and several 4-5s.

Last year we had a bunch of 700 OPS guys and not much above or below. This year, we have guys above and guys far below.

The aces are likley to see more playing time in the playoffs. The 5s can drop off. It would be nice to get at least a #2, whether that is Woody or QP or someone else.

The bottom hitters are replaceable, probably in the org already. Or they can test the trade waters this year.

Having a top-heavy rotation and replaceable hitters means this team is in good shape for postseason.

While I’m ready to pull the plug on Sproat starting for now, the truth is that we simply don’t have 5 superior options right now. Henderson and Woodruff are still injured, and Priester hasn’t looked remotely close in any of his rehab starts.

Not that it will probably happen but Skubal is an enormous difference maker for us relative to other playoff teams because the difference between our #2 and #3 in our rotation is huge.

Definitely a a good day for the grumps to take over the game day thread :)

The Sunshine club will be back tomorrow..

This loss doesn't even bother me. A few things that didn't go our way today (the play at the plate that wasn't overturned, the Vaughn misplay, etc). The ball just wasn't bouncing our way today. The baseball gods wanted us to lose this one. Yeah the pitching and offense left something to be desired but it just wasn't our day today. Come back tomorrow with Miz and get the series win.

Murphy shouldn't have let Sproat go out for the 5th inning.

Also, Murphy should get after his offense.

Yeah, if you're going to go after Sproat, whatever but then you also need to be going after Rengifo, Ortiz, Hamilton, Frelick, Woodford, Sanchez with his stupid challenges, etc.

Definitely, I'm being passive aggressive a bit but it's my way of acknowledging that we all see the same thing and there is stuff to fix so for those who usually are more vocal about it they can have the floor without resistance.

Saw the Mets optioned Tobias after yesterday. Does anyone know anything about Anderson Severino? 31 lefty reliever w/ just a cup of coffee in the bigs years ago but has thrown the ball well the last 2+ years spread across multiple leagues including AAA this year.

DFA'd by the Mets ... I imagine someone might take a flyer?
