Many on this board were ready in include Henderson in a deal for Skubal.  Thanks, Matt, for not doing that...assuming here he was not part of the package you offered :)  

Take a look at this year's numbers:

Skubal:                96.2 IP/ 16 starts.          2.79 ERA          116 SO/ 14 BB            so...6 innings per start with 8.2 SO to BB ratio.     1.82 BB/ 9innings      10.85 SO/ 9 innings

Henderson:          44.0 IP/ 9 starts            2.66 ERA         54 SO/ 9 BB           so...5 innings pitched per start with 6.0 SO to BB ratio.   1.84 BB/ 9innings    11.05 SO/ 9 innings

someone check my math....  ! 

Health aside (not a sure thing for either pitcher), the difference isn't as great as I thought.  Henderson's shorter starts are to at least some extent due to workload management and stretching out after injury.  He's given up 3 ER in his last 15 innings.  I think we have our #3 starter already on the club, and we have him under team control.  I think when the season is done, Henderson's results may put up there with Miz and Harrison.  May will come in a strong 4th. 

This isn't to say Skubal isn't better...he is.   And, he'll eat up more innings (assuming the elbow stays healthy!).  But is the difference enough to justify the cost and the risk?  I don't think so.

I don't know if I can think of anyone here who was ok with Henderson going back in a deal for Skubal. In fact, most were quite vocally adamantly against the idea.

True, but there were some who would have done it, in fact, some wanted to add Pena to Henderson plus other top 30 guys to boot.

I'm still in mourning over losing Frias and Ragsdale, to the Cardinals is what makes it sting twice as hard.

Here's hoping those two are the next Lewis Brinson and Monte Harrison. The Brewers simply can't afford for them to hit for a division rival.

Chuck Freimund said he was OK with sending Henderson, which would have been terrible for the Brewer future 

For now, our minors aren’t loaded with pitching prospects, we probably shouldn’t be trading many.

Wisconsin sports talk radio isn't exactly a bastion of Milwaukee Brewers organizational knowledge. If it isn't Packers or Giannis related, they by and large don't care.

If by Henderson they meant Sproat then I definitely said it.

Yeah, I hate to wish bad things for players, but if they both or even just one of them turns out special, we will remember this day every time the Cardinals take the field against us...

I guess my point is that the 3rd starter we need for the playoffs was here all along.  That assumes health...but we were ready to give a pretty healthy package for a guy who just had elbow surgery.  Glad we got May...he makes us that much deeper.  If Harrison comes back strong, We're in pretty good shape.  (lots of "ifs", I realize)   Bullpen will be deep too.  I'm glad things ended up as they did.  

Ragsdale will be in the bigs by the end of next season (JMHO...I'm a fan).  But that's the price of playing poker.  They overpayed a bit to fill a need for a team capable of winning the NL.  You can't call it "going all in", but maybe now we can all stop whining about not using prospect capitol to help our chances in the playoffs.

If the Tigers came to the Brewers and emphasized how they wanted a good, controllable starting pitcher back as a part of a package….and we sent back a package of 3 top hitters (Made, Fish, and Frias), I can understand why the Brewers were not taken seriously, even though we say that package is way better than the Dodgers.

It could all be that the Tigers wanted Henderson and when the Brewers said no, then there was no use to go forward with this.

It would be great to hear the real story of this all, but no way did the Brewers think this deal was going down two days before the deadline….feels like the Brewers were ready to dance around with the Tigers a bit with prospect packages and the Tigers weren’t, possibly because of Skub’s desire to go to the Dodgers and the Dodgers willingness to give them guys asked for initially.

it would be ridiculous to be convinced that the Brewers in trying to contend this year, is going to give up their #3 starter whose stats were on par with Skubal this year and with several years of eligibility remaining, as one piece of a deal. That sounds like a deal Detroit knew they werent ever going to make.

Skubal was going to the Dodgers all along.

Didn't really matter what we offered, they would have added until they beat us.

I'm not 100% sold that there wasn't some kind of foul play going on here either.  The entire situation was sketchy.  Boras is a slug.

I think I had said I was OK with either Pena or Henderson at the top of the package as long as the other pieces were further down the prospect list. So there is one, I still think one of those 2 was worth it but not both.
