The Brewers are about to face a very hot Padres offense, where Jackson Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr have turned things around. Since June 1st:

Jackson Merrill - 153 WRC+

Ty France - 144 WRC+

Fernando Tatis Jr - 138 WRC+

Manny Machado - 127 WRC+

 

Those four have combined to hit 29 home runs in 40 days between them. Luckily in Henderson, Harrison and May, the Brewers playoff rotation is about to be tested by a hot playoff offense. Hopefully the knackered bullpen doesn't hurt in a big way, as I'd expect Lyon Richardson to eat at least a couple of innings today.

I could use a clarification on what use of stats for a period other than the full season is considered "cherry picking", and what is considered relevant and useful for purposes of highlighting more recent production.

That's fair! I will say, Tatis is the most interesting of these as he made a converted change in July. He's always been a very open stance guy, around 36°. For some reason, he was more closed to start the year, around 10°, and if you remember David Hamilton homered before he did.

He's since opened up again and looked  a lot more like the old Fernando. As for the others, I can't be sure, but we also know from Chourio that talented hitters usually find a way to get their timing at some point in the season, and Merrill/Machado deservedly fall into that category

Here's to hoping Yelich, Contreras, and Chourio all find it similar down the stretch and into the playoffs. Good to see Jackson getting there lately. Now we need the other guys.

The Padres rolled through the easy part of their schedule. I have a feeling they will have different results against the #1 pitching staff in baseball.

I'm guessing you will see Wild Bill in the 4 spot instead of Vaughn. With Vaughn 6 and Yelich 7th if I were quessing

I'd guess you are right but William has no business hitting in the cleanup spot at this point. I'm not even sure I want him in the lineup tonight. I'd like to see Sanchez get 2 games a series going forward until William looks competent in the box again

They should be splitting time for a week or two.  Murphy is all about rest for everyone except Contreras.   Who plays one of the toughest positions in sports

I have Tatis on a fantasy team and I am aware of how his production has come around over the last several weeks.

My comment was made in jest because I have gotten some flak (and accused of cherry picking) for observing that the Brewers have been scoring significantly below their full season RPG over the last several weeks. 

It seems to me that comments about players and teams that start “Since (a certain date)..” or “in their last X games…” are made all the time to emphasize more recent performance. I never consider that to be “cherry picking” or controversial. Anyone hearing the comments should be able to decide for themselves how relevant they are.

I just want to say to whoever it was, I don’t even remember, that a couple months ago said Vaughn simply can’t play 3rd, hahaha, neener neener neener.

I kid, I too wouldn’t have thought he’d start multiple games in a row there either without a spring training to get used to it.

That was me but I also think context is required. We are essentially playing with 12 players and our depth IF is a sub replacement level player that we picked up off the street a day ago. This is basically an emergency situation. This isn't something that's going to be routine when Ortiz can start games again and when Pratt comes off the IL.

I like that answer……it’s not like they aren’t trying/motivated…….its just a struggle for them right now…….hopefully they find some form here in the last 6 weeks.
