Free Luke Adams!

He was pulled from a game which led to speculation that he was getting called up. But reports are that Luke Adams injured himself while warming up during a game yesterday or possibly the day before. Heard this on the Micro Brew podcast with JR Radcliffe

They’ve scored 40 runs in 12 games this month, and have allowed 40 runs in 12 games, and have gone 6-6. 
 

I don’t know if I’d say that’s a “prolonged slump”. Certainly it’s not “definition of insantiy”, as they’re playing .500 ball.
 

To accurately label the sentiment I’d say it’s “heightened expectations”.

Yep, 3.33 RA per game is better than any other team over the full season while scoring 3.33 runs per game would be the worst in the league over a full season. So maybe the offense has been terrible?

You can’t win if you don’t score and they’re 6-6 this month. Not pick the stats but they play 162 games and there’s always ups and downs. 
 

Yesterday, for example, the maligned offense did enough to win multiple times and Patrick, Ashby and Senzatela couldn’t finish the job, it happens over the course of 162.

The pitching staff gave up 2 runs in 9 innings. Over the season Padres score 4.28 R/G and the Brewers give up 3.82 R/G.

The offense scored 2 runs in 9 innings. Over the season the Brewers score 4.89 R/G and the Padres give up 4.27 R/G.

One side did enough to win yesterday and it wasn't the offense.

I guess we’ll disagree. Offense gave them the lead yesterday. Pitching staff lost it in the 8th, offense gave them the lead again in the 11th and pitching staff lost it.

I'm thinking its time to cut ties with Black.  I'd guess they tried to move him before the deadline.  He has no real path to the big club and no real defensive home.  That would make room for Adams.  Probably best thing for Tyler also.

• Nashville Sounds place 3B Luke Adams on the 7-day injured list.

And there is the main problem with Luke - staying healthy.  Terrible timing for him too.  Both he and Jett are injured right at the time they could be useful...

Yea this is some bad luck on timing to happen right after the deadline, plus 3 AAA options hit the DL at the same time.  So you're stuck with free agents or what's left in AAA.   I guess Wilken is there but he's been awful and you'd have no one that can competently play 2b/ss in a pinch.  There has to be someone out there better than Bae who can at least swing a bat.   At least Ortiz is back and looks fine, hopefully Turang is just a couple days now

A certain someone was just DFA'd by the Giants and maybe should have gotten a shot with us earlier this year as it is. I know the defense is suspect but if we are throwing out lineups with our 2 1st baseman playing 3rd and RF and our backup catcher hanging out at 1B ... maybe he can bridge a gap for us here.

I noticed he was not in the lineup last night and wondered whether he was about to be called up.... Well, maybe its time to give Jesus M a cup of coffee...making it clear to EVERYONE that its just that....a cup of coffee.  ??  Not sure whether that bit of exposure would be good or bad.

Now, that is the one I really think is a long shot... unless he suddenly signs a 10-year contract.

I'd be willing to lose a year of Adams if there is a lockout next year, but it would hurt to lose a year of Made if he doesn't sign a long contract right away.

Ya...I don't really know the rules regarding service time.  If he were to come up as an injury replacement, does it count?

In order to come up at all, he would need to be on the 40-man roster.  That would switch his service time from MiLB to MLB.  If next year has a lock out, they'd lose a year of service with him.

It would not be a year of service (how the year will be weighed is unknown but usually it would be that X number of days in 2027 is a full year with X being the length of the season). But if he is on the 40 man he would be locked out and losing development time.

Looks like Adams is back in the AAA lineup.  He went 3-5 last night.  The most likely option for a Sept call-up, IMO.

I've wondered about this as well.  Will the added position player be someone that has previously been up (like Bae or Lockridge), a third catcher in Naylor to allow Sanchez more PH opportunities, or a "catch lightning in a bottle" move like Luke Adams?

Adams as a "catch lightning in the bottle" move would be intriguing, though I don't know if adding another rookie to the roster would be to Murphy's liking compared to having a Lockridge or Bae available.

Naylor as third catcher could also make sense. But isn't there something about his MLB service time where limiting the days on the MLB roster this season could ensure future control through 2030 instead of 2029? Keeping him in Nashville through the end of the AAA season on SEP 20 might hold him under that cap. The Brewers' season has six games left after SEP 20, which might allow him to be called up for the final week before the playoffs--or a little earlier, depending on the service time issue.

So between a perceived bias towards veterans and the Naylor third-catcher idea, Adams might not be freed.

A RH hitting infielder would seem to make the most sense so that's in Adams favor. But with Ortiz finally playing well I don't think they'll burn his service year to mostly sit the bench.  I think this could've been Jett's spot if he'd be healthy so I'd guess the guy they DFAd a few days ago coming back if he stays in the system.

With how awful Turang has looked lately and that he had a minor injury announced a week or two back, I wonder if he could use a DL stint though to get ready for the playoffs. In that case, it could free up some real playing time for someone like this, assume Ortiz to 2B on those days

Adams would definitely be the fun option, but it will 100% be Lockridge. Simply for pinch running/defensive replacement opportunities, plus the fact that he's already on the 40-man roster.

Seeing as how they're using Sanchez these days you could make a strong argument for Naylor, pending any stupid service-time issues mentioned above. If he gets going offensively in Nashville, Lockridge would also be a strong possibility. Last night was a good illustration of how he could have value aside from PR & defense---we had four bats on the bench to begin the game, all LHH. 

The same Lockridge argument could apply to Adams, but I think he'll have to get & stay quite hot to be considered.

This all leads to my annual rant about the expanded rosters. Forty was ridiculous, but IMO 28 is too thin. Thirty would be nice. Even for teams not in a playoff hunt, where you would have a chance to look at another young'un or two.
