Not that they're a threat, but any win in these upcoming 6 games against Cincy both earns the Brewers the season series win and pushes our magic number to zero against them.

Kudos to Henderson for re-setting the bullpen - we still have 6 games before getting to the off day. Drohan tends to get his pitch count up early, so getting almost everybody a rest day last night was good.

More important and relevant than winning the season series against the Reds, and lowering the magic number against them, is the fact that wins against them will help if the Brewers end up in a tie with the Braves or Phillies.

As many posters have already addressed, because the Braves and Brewers split their season series, the next tiebreaker is record within their division. Right now the Braves hold a slight advantage, but the Brewers have a lot more intradivisional games left than the Braves do, so they can make up the difference just by winning and without needing help.

The Reds are not tanking as they have won their recent series against two playoff contenders (Cubs and Padres). The Brewers get a break with the Reds opting to push Burns’ next start to Monday against the Dodgers.

Hopefully the Brewers offense can be more productive than it was in the earlier series at GAB

It would be nice to only need to use some combination of Patrick, Anderson, and Megill tonight.

I was just looking at the chart and thinking the exact same thing.

Only using Hall for one inning last night was a big help, but with 6 more games until the next off day it’s not ideal to have relievers going 3 times in 4 days either.

I’m putting a lot of the responsibility for this on the offense.  They aren’t facing any All Star caliber SP in this series, so maybe they can put up 6 or more runs to give the pitching staff some cushion.
