Interesting that Naylor gets his first start and will call (I presume?) Harrison's game. The guy on the staff we most need to recorrect... and he is in Naylor's hands today. I don't have an opinion... just interesting. Maybe Naylor can unlock something for him.

The Brewers could really use a win today, or at least I could.

I don’t want to see the Cubs shave another game off the lead going into the series that presents their last real chance to make a run at the division.

If a 7 game lead plus holding the current tiebreaker with 19 to play gives you anxiety,  nothing aside from seeing the (X-) in the standings is going to change that. 

The 3 way race between the Brewers, Braves and Dodgers is definitely one I’m paying attention to, though.

That DOES feel weird, but I can't put my finger on exactly why.  Are catchers in their first start more predictable than vets -- always calling the most expected pitch so as not to rock the boat(?)

I guess in the end it's always the pitcher's decision, but still feels weird.

First, I wouldn’t exactly call it anxiety. But it is an almost superstitious inclination to not take anything for granted. That’s how I always approached things when I played competitive sports and it’s the same as a spectator.  And that approach isn’t entirely removed until it becomes a certainty, not just an “almost” certainty. 
 

I said before last week’s series against the Cubs that I wouldn’t be satisfied unless and until the Brewers won at least 3 of the 7 head to head games to both wrap up the tiebreaker and prevent the Cubs from making a big gain in the head to head games. That task is not completed yet.

The Braves and Dodgers race just adds another layer to it.

Seeing Fischer absolutely mash this year and seeing these ballparks really makes me wish he was our 28th man on the roster. 

How fun would it have been to see Fischer plugged in at DH for a few games at Wrigley and GABP and see if he can just run into one or a few during the road trip?

I get that there are other considerations, service time, future 40 man roster decisions, the possibility of a 2027 lockout, etc, I get all that. I get that it was never going to be anyone besides Naylor or Lockridge.

I just don’t necessarily like it. Those guys don’t move the needle one ounce. They just give others a breather for a Sunday lineup a couple times in September.

Is putting the lowest OBP in your lineup (aside from Naylor, which c’mon, obviously doesn’t count) at leadoff something that most teams do as a matter of strategy? Or is that more of a Pancake special?

Not a great start.  Yelich has been better of late… but why not leave him at 6th or 7th.

aside from his first series back, Frelick has not done anything this year.  If he’s going to play, should also be lower in the lineup.

that said, you take Vaughn, Lara, and Wild Bill out and our lineup is going to look less than optimal no matter what
