After receiving NL MVP votes a year ago, a star player for the World Series champion Milwaukee Brewers has a much better finish on tap in 2026.

Brewers second baseman Brice Turang was named Monday as one of the top three finishers in NL MVP voting. The other two are Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani has won the last two NL MVPs and three straight including his final year with the AL's Los Angeles Angels. He has won an MVP in four of the last five years.

Crow-Armstrong is the expected NL MVP after putting up a 40-40 season for the Cubs, who finished second to the Brewers in the NL Central. The Brewers have won the last four division titles.

Turang made a big jump offensively last year, hitting 18 homers and driving in 81, then finishing 14th in NL MVP voting. This year, he added more consistent power and was a run producer. He had career highs of 21 homers and 100 RBIs, which led the Brewers, while having a slash line of .268/.366/.450.

Turang, who won his second NL Gold Glove on Sunday, is the first Brewers player to be among the top three for NL MVP since Christian Yelich won in 2018 and finished second in 2019.

Glad to see the recognition, after the lull post All-star break I didn't keep close track, but his WAR number for both systems were really excellent

I saw an interesting stat Turang's WAR matched 2018 Yeli which was pretty eye opening to me. He is THAT good at 2nd base. He just makes those super tough plays look so easy we all get used to them and take them for granted. Very valuable. Also drove in a lot of runs. Impressive.

Not surprising at all yet I see so many Brewers fans on this message board that don't seem to think he's been our best player this year. Outside of possibly Miz he absolutely has been.

Miz should have been in consideration for MVP.  16 games above 500 from one pitcher.

He is probably #4 or #5.

Pitchers never get any love. DeGroms crazy season landed him #5.

Only recent pitchers to win MVP were a Clayton Kershaw 2014 (a HORRIBLE MVP contending class) and Verlander’s triple crown season in 2011.

Just think how good he could be if he can spend all offseason working on hitting vs LHP and get himself to just OK level vs lefties.  Hopefully he made friends with Schwarber at the WBC

ETA: I had a $4 bet on Turang MVP back in like April at something like 170-1 odds.  Idea being that if Ohtani got hurt he'd be the best player on the best team so who knows.  If PCA didn't turn into a Bonds light for 3 months it probably works

I'd personally have Misio fourth given the rest of the NL field...

Ohtani (7.4 fWAR | 6.4 bWAR)
Turang (5.9 fWAR | 7.3 bWAR)

Misio (7.4 rWAR | 6.6 fWAR | 6.5 bWAR)
Sanchez (6.3 rWAR | 6.2 fWAR | 8.1 bWAR)
De La Cruz (6.4 fWAR | 5.6 bWAR)
Gabriel Moreno (5.4 fWAR | 6.7 bWAR)
Bregman (5.5 fWAR | 5.8 bWAR)
Pages (4.5 fWAR | 6.0 bWAR)
Otto Lopez (5.9 fWAR | 6.1 bWAR)

...don't play fantasy so I rarely look at runs scored or batted in, but that Turang finished with 100 RBI has got to be one of the most incomprehensible things about this season. If someone told me at any point between 2018 and 2024 that Brice Turang would have a 100 RBI season, I probably would have sarcastically responded "sure buddy, and the Brewers are gonna win the World Series too I betcha"

Then I hope he gets 100 RBI next year too!

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

The wind was blowing out this year at Wrigley, and Couns loves him some long balls.

He was sneakily a value machine in the postseason too. Started off a bit slow but finished with a .817 OPS (.404 OBP) and was lock down solid defensively at 2B.

Just like the regular season I feel like he was quietly productive and didn't make as many highlight reels as some of his teammates. So perhaps it's appropriate that his routine play to end the World Series is the highlight that he'll be immortalized in.

Traditionally, team success has impacted voting, and Turang finished 2nd in bWAR... there's no way he could win it, right? I mean if you reward points based on such things, shouldn't THIS matter (Google AI - I haven't fact-checked it)?

In head-to-head matchups during the 2026 MLB regular season, Brice Turang held a slight statistical edge offensively over Pete Crow-Armstrong, though both players struggled to get hits consistently against their respective division rivals.
While both players had breakthrough campaigns overall—culminating in both being named finalists for the National League MVP Award and the NL Platinum Glove—their individual execution during the 2026 Brewers–Cubs series tells a tighter story. [1, 2]
A side-by-side comparison of their individual stats against each other's teams during the 2026 season shows the following numbers:
Statistic Brice Turang vs. Chicago Cubs Pete Crow-Armstrong vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Games Played 13 13
Batting Average .240 .163
Hits 12 8
Home Runs 1 2
Runs Batted In (RBI) 4 3
Runs Scored 9 11
Key Takeaways
  • Turang's Consistency: Turang put together a much higher batting average (.240 to .163) across their 13 games, finding ways to turn over the lineup even when the Cubs' pitching held him in check.
  • PCA's Power Outburst: Though Crow-Armstrong struggled to get base hits, hitting below the Mendoza line against Milwaukee, he made his hits count for maximum damage by launching 2 home runs compared to Turang's 1. [1, 2]

Man Gary Sanchez had a better season than I thought! 🫡😎
