Not sure I'd be calm enough to go ahead and grab the camera for a picture. I think I'd be too freaked out and moving away from the door.

I'll second that, burnie. Holy crap! It took me a while to recognize that the neck goes off to the right... and that this is not actually a ghost cougar. Creepy & scary, for certain... sizing up the kids! *shudders*

Rock Springs is about 100 miles south of Pinedale, Wyoming

and 100 miles east of Rawlins...

Yeah, I'm not following you here. No telling us where it is in comparison to Cheyenne or Jackson Hole? Just Pinedale and Rawlins? Okay, that's cool, I have an atlas.

Those directions were a cut and paste from an email, sorry, I don't know much about Wyoming geography.

That's one incredible photo, that cat's eyes are amazing.

Just in case anybody cares Rock Springs is about 225 miles west of Cheyenne, about 200 miles west of Laramie, 200 miles southeast of Jackson Hole and 150 miles southwest of Casper. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

The only cougar I wouldn't want to get near is Gary, the no trash cougar.

all I know is that big scary cat isn't close to me, and I'm fine with that.

Amen. Well-said.

I wonder if that cougar looks at those kids the same way we look at chicken nuggets.

It sure looks like that's how it's peering in... ordering off the '0 Dollar Menu.'

Rock Springs is way bigger than both Pinedale and Rawlins. Having spent way to much time in all of those towns, I know you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who knows of Pinedale and not Rock Springs. That's like referencing Milwaukee's location via Fredonia or Astico. Anyway, I know you didn't write the directions splitter.

I was raised and still live in Montana and I've never seen a cougar. I've seen dozens of bears and even a wolf, but never a cougar. I've even spoken to park rangers in Yellowstone and Glacier Park who have gone their whole careers without spotting one.

Good luck to those in the area. Remember, if you see it be sure to curl up into a ball.......or run away screaming. One of the two will probably work, likely the one you didn't choose.

New section on the DNR's website about the cougar

It has the picture that splitterpfj posted earlier with this text.

The Fake Story: These photographs were circulated around the internet with a story stating that the cougar came on to a family's deck (variously reported as in Tomahawk, Eagle River, Sawyer County) and was staring at the children who were playing on the floor. The photos were also reportedly from South Dakota, Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania.

The Real Story: These photos were actually taken outside Lander, Wyoming in 2005. Dave Hamilton of the Missouri Department of Conservation tracked the photos to Dr. Dave Rodgers, a dentist from the Lander area, who lives in an area frequented by cougars
Along with the photo splitter put up they also posted these three photos.

What a freaky thing that would be to see...wow.

I live about 15 minutes from Milton, in the middle of farm country. I hope that cougar stays far away, especially considering my kids love to play outside on their swing-set.

yeah, enjoyed my weekend hanging out at Navy Pier. listened to the musicians, took a boat ride, saw a cougar, ate some deep-dish pizza...

About a month ago, a cougar was spotted in Janesville, by Blackhawk golf course. They are pretty sure it was the same one found in Milton. Thought it was heading East.

To add to the story about Milton, I read in the Janesville Gazette that the guy who spotted the cougar going into his barn, followed it in, with two rocks as his ammo. Idiot.

You can't make that up.

The Chicago cougar was shot exactly 14 blocks due south of me.
