  1. Going by Fangraphs, Segura's percentage of hard hit balls in play last year was 19.7%. The MLB average was 28.6%. So maybe not? Well Segura's hard hit balls in play last year is going to be low as one of the key factors in that stat is hang time, location, and general trajectory. With a higher ground ball rate you should see a low percentage with that stat. For comparison Escobar was at 20.4%. If you look at Segura's MED hit percentage it was at 54.7% and league average was at 52.7%. Though Segura's soft% was higher than the league average also. If you look even further into his numbers the higher soft% and med% can be explained by his oppo% cent% and pull%. Segura's pull% was only 25.6% compared to the league average of 39.1%. Since the majority of hard hit balls are going to come from the pull side and Segura having such a low pull% you should expect Segura to have a weaker hard hit balls in play stat especially one where it is looking at hang time and trajectory. Generally speaking balls that are pulled are going to have more hang time and have a higher trajectory than balls that are hit up the middle or are taken to the opposite field. I still believe Segura wasn't hitting things weakly at least not his ground balls as his ground ball velocity wasn't all that low and his average speed wasn't all that low either. Segura still needs to raise his OBP. If Segura raises his OBP up near the .300 again his good base running will actually improve his offense and make him become extremely valuable again. I am not all that worried about if Segura will hit I am more worried about will he get on base enough so his above average base running will actually be an asset for the Brewers.
  2. Even with Segura hitting a lot of ground balls he is not hitting them all that softly which means he is getting good contact on them. Segura last year had an average of 86.65 MPH on his ground balls that he hit. Even Segura's average speed for the ball coming off his bat was better than Altuve, Russell, Ellsbury, Simmons, Jace Peterson, and Alcides Escobar. It is not like Segura has not been hitting the ball hard at least the advanced stats do not say this. I wouldn't be surprised if Segura puts up a .275-.290 average this season but that is going to be BABIP driven. http://baseballsavant.com/apps/hit_leader.php?game_date=&abs=150&type=batter&sort=7,1 The real problem with Segura is his OBP. If Segura is able to get back to his 2013 OBP numbers or close to it his value will increase tremendously. Segura is more like Alcides Escobar where he is never going to walk a lot and his value is mostly in their defense and their BABIP. When their BABIP is high they have good years offensively but whenever their BABIP is low they are going to have negative offensive years. Both Escobar and Segura are your prototypical they are going to put the ball in play and really should be batting down in the batting order where putting the ball in play is more important than getting extra base hits and getting on base.
  3. Probably more along the lines of their call center getting slammed with the sudden increase in traffic that makes it go down. That extra bandwidth when this happens is probably more than what their call center network can handle and the overflow switch is probably acting like a person trying to breathe in a vacuum when trying to switch the calls to the next available call center with bandwidth.
  4. I am just going to say this on this subject:
  5. I would take Ortiz, Miller, and Forbes. I think you could convince the Rangers to add Matuella in that trade also as he is an extremely risky prospect. So Ortiz, Miller, Forbes, and Matuella would be a nice haul for Lucroy. Ortiz and Matuella both have a ceiling of a #1 type pitcher with Miller having a ceiling of a #2 or #3 type pitcher with a floor of a #5. Then you have Forbes who could be a cornerstone at 3B and I like him better than Gallo and Cordell. While Forbes doesn't have the power that Gallo or even Cordell has he does have a better skill set in terms of contact and patience at the plate than Gallo and Cordell. Defensively Forbes is also going to be better than Gallo and Cordell. I still believe Gallo is going to be playing 1B or the OF in the majors.
  6. With the Dbacks any trade with them and it involving Lucroy starts with Shipley. After that you have a few good but not great prospects with Drury and Dawel Lugo. Shipley could be a top of the rotation starter or at the very least a #3 type starter. Drury is like a mix between Cirillo and Overbay. He is not going to hit a ton of home runs but he should get a bunch of doubles and if you like a player who puts the ball in play then you will really like Drury. Defensively he is above average at either 2B or 3B his arm plays better at 2B though he can play 3B as he positions himself almost perfectly to negate his below average arm at 3B. Wei-Chieh Huang is another player I would target from the Dbacks. Another player I like on the Dbacks is Marcus Wilson an athletic CF though he needs a lot of work with his swing as it is rather poor but at 19 years old he has a lot of time to fine tune his swing. If Wilson puts it all together you are looking at a superstar if not probably a 4th or 5th OF.
  7. I just don't see Tampa as a fit for Lucroy. While they match up nicely fro the Brewers the Rays are just not a match for Lucroy. Maybe if this were 2-3 years ago then yes the Rays would be a match for Lucroy but not now. Lucroy just does not have enough time left on his contract and he is not that young anymore. After his contract is up the Rays would either have to trade him after this coming season or take the compensation in the draft when he leaves via free agency. This is the deal killer for the Rays as they are going to be looking for someone who is younger than Lucroy and who is going to give them more control and cost less. The top two teams that I see in having a real interest in Lucroy are the Rangers and the Dbacks. Unless some other team comes out of no where and offers a lot I just do not see any other teams out there that will give up the prospects that the Brewers will want in a Lucroy trade. This is the reason why there hasn't been a trade involving Lucroy to someone there is enough interest in a trade for Lucroy but the teams that are showing interest either do not have the prospects that the Brewers would want or are unwilling to give up the prospects that the Brewers want.
  8. I would take Shipley and Drury along with Gabby Guerrero or Dawel Lugo from the Dbacks for Lucroy.
  9. How did Schilling get more votes than Clemens and Bonds?
  10. Haven't been to a spring training game where the Brewers play so can't help you out there and haven't really went after autographs either. But for things to do around Phoenix I can give you advise on that. If you like beer try this brewery near downtown Phoenix: The menu is light on food but the beer is good I went there last week: Phoenix Ale Brewery 3002 E. Washington St. Phoenix http://phoenixale.com/ Otherwise there are a lot of golf courses. I don't golf so I can't tell you which ones are good but there are a lot to choose from. If you have kids I would suggest either: https://www.k1speed.com/phoenix-location.html or http://www.octaneraceway.com/#&panel1-1 or http://outofafricapark.com/ If you want to go even further north there is Sedona which can be a lot of fun. http://visitsedona.com/ Also there are countless number of trails you can go on for hiking. Bring a lot of water it may not be all that hot when you are here but the trails can be tough and you will need a lot of water.
  11. If you are drinking and get into one of them new fancy autonomous cars will that still be considered as drunk driving if you are not driving but the computer is?
  12. My top 3 1. Ben Sheets throwing a 2 hit complete game on opening day against the Dodgers in 2007. 2. Game 162 against the Cubs in 2008 that was the loudest game I had been at after Braun hit the home run. 3. 2007 against the Cardinals Prince hits #50 for the season.
  13. Not signing MLB free agents is a recipe for mediocrity. You can't rely 100% on your farm system it just will not work and you will always be short a player or two and thus relying on AAAA players having a breakout year like a McGehee. The Brewers are going to have to sign free agents at some point. Even the Royals who won the world series had to go into free agency and pick up players. Kendrys Morales and Edinson Volquez were free agent signings by the Royals and were key to the Royals going to and winning the world series. Without Volquez the Royals do not win the world series and without Morales the Royals don't even make it to the world series. Now do the Brewers have to go out and get the best free agent available no they do no need to do that. If the Brewers can get someone like Mike Cameron or even someone like Takashi Saito on short term deals like what the Royals did with Volquez, Morales, and Vargas. Just because Ramirez did not work out does not mean the Brewers should never go into free agency again.
  14. Died of cancer today http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2015/12/28/motorhead-frontman-lemmy-kilmister-dies-at-70/77999060/
  15. I think it is just me but does Kylo Ren's mask look like Revan's mask from the Knights of the Old Republic? Revan on the right http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/a/aa/Timeline8.jpg Kylo Ren http://i.ytimg.com/vi/UZdu4IuTDSc/maxresdefault.jpg I don't think it is Darth Plagueis but Darth Bane. Darth Bane: http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090903051934/starwars/images/b/be/Darth_Bane-TEA.jpg Both Bane and Revan were almost included in the canon for star wars as they were supposed to appear in a Clone Wars episode but they were canceled due to Lucas stating that dead sith can not be ghosts. Lucas changed the canon for the knights of the old republic and Revan remains a sith and doesn't return to the light side as the game has it as canon.
  16. Offensively the team will be the same and I think the pitching will actually be better both in the bullpen and in the rotation. I wouldn't be surprised if Garza has a sub 4 ERA along with Peralta, Nelson and Jungmann. Even if Garza has another bad year that won't be enough to get the Brewers to a 100 loss season. The only way to do that would be to trade Peralta and Nelson or if Nelson, Peralta, Garza, Jungmann and Davies all have a season above a 4 ERA. It is possible the Brewers could lose 100 games but I would go more with a 88-95 loss team with a possible at or above .500 team.
  17. Davis has had monthly OPS splits of .683, .914, .799, .734, .758, .579, .699, .865, .620, .867 & .937 the last two seasons. With the average LF producing an OPS of .720 in 2014 & .730 in 2015 I'd say that's 4 good months, 3 better than average months and 4 below average months. Cheery picking stats again like some on here. Why choose OPS instead of OBP? Probably because all Davis does is hit HRs hence his SLG making his offensive production appear much better and more consistent than it is. his HR/rbi total over the past 2 seasons are dominated by 3 months. Prior the the final 2 months last year he was awful You do know that OPS includes OBP?
  18. Baseball America has almost the same quote in this article: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/trade-central-pirates-brewers-get-together-deal/
  19. We both know it's going to be Alvarez. I think it is Alvarez but now who do you platoon with Alvarez? This was a nice trade for the Brewers and I am shocked at the return they got with this trade. The bigger question now is does this mean Santana is going to be at 1B or do they go with a platoon at 1B?
  20. There are probably about two teams that make sense for a Braun trade. The Dodgers and the Angels are the ones who make the most sense. For the Dodgers if they believe Puig is just to much of a cancer in their clubhouse I could see them offering Puig for Braun with the Dodgers taking on all of Braun's salary. With the Angels it would be for someone like CJ Cron or Kaleb Cowart with the Brewers paying for a percentage of Braun's contract. I don't really see a scenario where the Brewers are going to get a young prospect in return for Braun at best you are looking at someone like Cron or Cowart in terms of youth or you are looking at someone who has fallen out of favor like Puig.
  21. If the Dodgers were not willing to give up Seager and Urias for Jose Fernandez why would they give them up plus others for Braun, Lucroy, and Segura? It just doesn't make any sense at all.
  22. Which doesn't make any sense. Pitcher - strikeouts = good! Batter - strikeouts = meh I don't get it. logan basically explained why it is this way. The amount of times where a batter comes up and a strike out matters is insignificant compared to when a pitcher comes up and a strikeout matters. This is basically the pitcher gets more opportunities to be put into the situations than a batter does over the course of a year. Strikeouts for a batter just do not correlate well to success for a batter but does for a pitcher. The best stat if you want to use just one would be OBP as that is going to correlate more to the overall success of a team than strike outs will. Now look at this and tell me which team you would expect to be the best team of these five teams: Team 1. 1299 Strikeouts Team 2. 1107 Strikeouts Team 3. 1290 Strikeouts Team 4. 1255 Strikeouts Team 5. 1274 Strikeouts
  23. I would prefer Schwarber over Baez. If the Brewers are going to be trading with the Cubs and they are talking about Lucroy then Schwarber or Baez need to be the main piece coming back with other pieces also coming back. Not the ideal team to be trading Lucroy to as the majority of the Cubs prospects are already in the majors and already have about 1-year of service time gone.
  24. Rogers is a AAAA player and at best you are looking at a platoon bat. There is nothing more for him to prove he is what he is. I would rather go with someone like Alvarez who if he hits anywhere to what Lind did here you can get a nice prospect or two back at the deadline. Getting additional prospects and a top 10 draft pick is greater than a top 5 pick in the draft.
  25. I wouldn't be against signing Alvarez to a 1-year deal at $5-8m. Platoon both Rogers and Alvarez at 1B and hopefully Alvarez hits enough that you can trade him for some more prospects at the deadline. Even if the Brewers pick up Alvarez he is not blocking anyone important and there isn't anyone who is young that Alvarez is blocking either. Rogers is only 1-year younger than Alvarez. I would rather gamble on Alvarez performing enough to bring back a prospect or two than have Rogers play at 1B every day in the majors. I would prefer the Brewers to move Braun to 1B over Alvarez but it doesn't look like the Brewers are going to do that.
