  1. Ortiz was never a serious option for 2025 3B and depending on Wilken the 2025 3B would be something worth criticism.
  2. I don’t think it’s right to look at the 3Bs from the offseason and say “well the couple guys who signed for less than $5m mostly aren’t doing well so Arnold did a good job there”. He has been GM for many years and team building doesn’t happen 1 offseason at a time. Several of the top 20 3Bs would have been available in previous years through draft, trade, develop, etc.
  3. I don't think I've ever disagreed with a fangraphs list so much. They leaned too far into future upside and away from probability to help the MLB team. Guys like Durbin, Patrick, Boeve, Black, Wilken too far below guys like Jorge Quintana and his 2030 ETA. Someone needs to remind them that first round picks are not done developing at age 23 most of the time, and this miss rate on 18 year olds is insanely high.
  4. The most likely scenario right now is they are running a 15% or so playoff odds at the deadline and just shuffle a few cards to re tool for a "let's see what happens" run. Trade away a pitcher or 2 and prospect #15 for a depth bat for example.
  5. Personally I don't think batting order matters that much so long as you don't do ridiculous things like put the best hitters 7,8,9. More than anything you don't want to lose an AB in the 9th inning for a good hitter because you didn't get around to him again.
  6. I feel like trading Freddy is the only path to fixing the infield, and this team is going to be broken as long as the infield is broken, but we can get by without Freddy.
  7. 50/50 chance it's a made up thing to buy time?
  8. Well, I think Myers will probably be back in a few weeks, but there is also a chance he’s fallen out of our top 5 when Woodruff and Civale are back. He wasn’t pitching well and a few tune up starts in AAA wouldn’t be the worst idea.
  9. It's nice when MGMT is clearly tired of the same 2 guys I am tired of (Capra and Elvin)
  10. I think he gets demoted to the 7th inning, finishes with a 3.xx era and signs with a team like the Rockies for 3 years $40m or so
  11. Can we DFA Capra already? There has to be some AAAA player we can pull from another org that will at least hit .200. Or just rush up Boeve or anything.
  12. Glad we were able to scratch out some runs against the White Sox ace early
  13. I am going to be absolutely insufferable about Shane Smith in this thread
  14. Made and Pena are both 3 years away, and they might not stick at SS. I don't know much about Areinamo but I suspect a FV 40 prospect in A ball doesn't move the needle much. I agree with you that in 2 or 3 years they might have some SS talent close to MLB but right now it's only Pratt and no one else is close at all. Hopefully Ortiz can turn in a solid season though because that would be the best scenario, and Durbin can take an IF spot as well.
  15. I've gone back and forth on Pratt myself. Right now he feels untradeable because he's kind of the only SS in the system and I'm wondering if we are going to be trying to bench Ortiz by the deadline due to lack of offense. Not that Pratt will be ready by then but if things go that way, best to have someone potentially on the way.
  16. Are the cubs good again? They have a lot of regression candidates on that roster but I am sure Tucker will mash all year, PCA is a top prospect playing well and they are winning games.
  17. I have been hoping our pitching gets healthy enough where we can trade some guys like maybe Ashby or Hall or Civale. I'm not sure how much value we could get there but it could help if it's a sellers market (which is usually the case for mid-season pitching). I also wouldn't mind trading Misiorowski if the return is good because he hasn't shown progress on the control issues.
  18. He will stick around for years and years as a reminder that a pretty good FO will make a boneheaded play sometimes
  19. The market corrected. Teams don't give up future all stars for 1 year of control anymore. Teams like the Brewers have to try to get a return that can fill 2-3 holes with decent players on a cheap salary, and find their all stars other ways.
  20. What does Tyler Black have to do with Dunn and Capra?
  21. They earned the right to be there but Dunn and Capra only have a few months until they get DFAd, unless they figure it out. Small samples matter for fringe players.
