  1. The D'Bags just got swept by the Mets. They are really scuffling. The crew needs to find a way to win this series.
  2. Is Nelson with the team in Milwaukee or is he in Arizona with the extended spring squad?
  3. I just watched Burnes' last Colorado Springs start. His fastball appears to really explode out of his hand. Anybody know if his velocity is up this year.?
  4. Sample size or something...? I agree with 3 and 2. The rebuild is not over. I would look to trade Shaw. and then try to trade Knebel close to the deadline. This team does not have the starting pitching to contend. Leave Burnes in AAA. No need to rush him. I get the Hader and Davies comps however, even Davies and Hader spend some time in AAA.
  5. Close game......Oliver Drake in.... Counsel cant help himself...
  6. Gallardo lost his curve-ball and some velocity on his fastball. He's washed up. Stick a fork in 'em.
  7. There is a cheese wedge on the top of Lawrie's Twitter page. *Groan*. I wasn't a fan when I saw him play in Appleton before we traded him. Some things just aren't worth it. http://thesportspin.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Brett-Lawrie-is-Edward-40-Hands1.jpg
  8. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/rays-to-release-dan-jennings.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29 Two reasons: 1. The Rays didn't want to pay him all of 2.37 million during a rebuild year and were able to bump him for 1/4 of the salary. This is similar to what we did with Gallardo. 2. He had a poor strikeout/walk ratio. I still don't get them dumping him if there were no issues. Look at the huge returns relievers have brought. Why not pay him for half a year, not much more than the buyout, and try to flip him for a prospect? Or if he's that good just trade him now rather than cut? Seems off to me, but if Drake is out and this guy is even average, I'm liking it. I was not suggesting I would have dumped him. But in reading the comments on Marlins forums, the consensus was money plus poor peripherals. A lot of the moves the Marlins make are head scratchers. I personally love the pickup.

  10. Counsel cant help himself. Drake will appear in San Diego and give up a key run. No question!
  11. Hoover didn't give up a run all spring and looked dynamite. Keeping Drake over him makes me want to puke. Head scratcher is probably an understatement.
  12. Korean sources reporting that Choi has made the roster. https://twitter.com/sung_minkim/status/979161184988364800 A trade MUST be in the works (or someone is getting released).
  13. My guess is that the Brewers play Pina 80% of the time and try to use Bandy as little as possible.
  14. Yeah, the Yankees had Lind and released him, so it is very doubtful they wold re-sign he a week later.
  15. This is an excellent idea as well. This would allow the Brewers to keep a Braun/Choi platoon in Milwaukee. My issue there is that if(when) Braun gets hurt we are then rolling with Choi as our 1b.
  16. This is a very good point. I completely forgot that Aguilar is a right-hander. That could be very important.
  17. I could see the Yankees being interested in both Thames and Aguilar. Here are my thoughts: 1. Thames. I think the Brewers would love to dump Thames salary. However, because of the salary I doubt we would receive much in return. I will be interested to see if the Brewers do a salary dump move especially in light of some recent news that we might be near the limit on payroll. 2. Aguilar. I believe Aguilar is probably more valuable. However, I wouldn't trade him away for anything less than the Jason Rogers package. i.e one decent pitching prospect and one decent hitting prospect.
  18. Seeing as though he lost his best pitch and is coming off Tommy John I'm not shocked. Cobb is not without risk. The X factor is that we don't know what his asking price is.
  19. Found this on mlbtraderumors tonight: It’s up in the air whether right-hander A.J. Cole will earn the final spot in the Nationals’ rotation. Regardless, the out-of-options 26-year-old is “going to make the team,” general manager Mike Rizzo told Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post and other reporters Monday. Rizzo added that veteran Jeremy Hellickson, also a contender for the No. 5 job, is “way behind” right now – which seems to bode well for Cole’s chances of starting. Given that Hellickson only just signed with the Nationals, they could elect to keep him in Florida for extended spring training so he’s better equipped to succeed if he does get a regular-season opportunity, per Rizzo (via Jamal Collier of MLB.com). Rizzo noted that a couple of the Nats’ signings last year, catcher Matt Wieters and reliever Joe Blanton, struggled mightily because neither had a full spring training. He doesn’t want to go down that same road with Hellickson. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/nl-notes-diamondbacks-nats-mets.html Guess you can stick a fork in any speculation that Cole gets dealt any time soon.
  20. Who knows what it would take. The Nats stand to lose Cole on waivers if he doesn't make the 25 man roster. I'd probably offer a package of Trent Grisham and a lottery ticket. An arguable Top 10 prospect for a guy they are likely going to cut? No thanks! It would be a low-level minor leaguer or a non-prospect like Tristan Archer that they could stash for depth. Grisham's .690 OPS in Low A, .708 OPS in High A, and 10 HR's in 678 A ball at bats do not inspire confidence that he will develop into much.

  22. I'd prefer to wait as well. However, if Cole makes the big league club and puts up good numbers, I highly doubt he is available at the deadline. Moreover, if he doesn't make the roster now, I will be shocked if he's not claimed off waivers. Gotta strike while the iron is hot.
  23. This spring the Nationals have had four guys competing for their #5 rotation spot. 1. A.J. Cole 2. Edwin Jackson 3. Tommy Milone 4. Erick Fedde. Cole was looking good but apparently the Nats are all in this year. On Friday they went out and signed Jeremy Hellickson. I doubt they sign Hellickson if they want to go with one of the original four candidates. Cole is out of options. He was once the No. 60 prospect in baseball. He's not going to be free, but I would think he could be had for a very small return. He's not a world beater but he is guy who I think actually has some potential. Cole’s 2018 numbers were decent at the MLB level: 3-5 with a 3.81 ERA even if his periperhals were bad (5.88 fip, 1.50 whip). His AAA numbers in 2017 were awful (5.88 ERA in 18 starts). Should the Brewers consider making a play for Cole?
  24. I'm very glad Miley is coming back to earth. Hopefully this is the impetus for Stearns to make a move.
