  1. Agreed. Plus, stros went 4-6 in games Fiers started for them in 2015. He pitched decent, sure. Houston went on to win the WC that year and then lose to KC. Fiers wasn't very valuable to them in 16-17 at all. Meanwhile, Phillips had some big moments and then helped net us Moustakas in 2018, and still have Houser. I think the trade was a good idea for houston, but I don't think it takes a homer to say Milwaukee easily won that trade.
  2. One of the all time greats, claimed by covid. It’s a sad day for me. His music, storytelling, wit and humor has brought me so much joy throughout the years. I wish I’d gotten to see him perform, it just feels like something missing from my life. I hope they don’t bury him down in the cold cold ground, per his request. And I hope he’s enjoying his 9 mile long cigarette now.
  3. Last night I fired up the Weber kettle and did up a dozen chicken thighs, it was glorious. My clothes smell like it today, I smell like summer. I love it, just what I needed. I figured I’d share my tried and true chicken recipe so here goes: chicken, Lawry’s. Keep it simple, let your craft shine through. I like a mixture of charcoal briquettes and wood lump charcoal for grilling chicken. Semi-direct heat for nice crispy skin, and then move to indirect heat for doneness and smoky flavor. Thighs are the best pieces of the chicken bar none.
  4. GAME05 given all the home time these days I started to re-explore investing in ps4/psvr. I never moved on it after our discussion about it in 2018. Reading your latest post gives me some pause though. Other considerations I have: I'm surprised the price hasn't gone down in that time. Does anyone have a recommended vendor besides Best Buy? Best Buy's website could really use some work. Try as I might, it only wants to sell me things that they have in stock over in Anchorage.
  5. One important consideration for all teams will be how to keep their players, pitchers in particular, physically ready and able to hold up over the 2021 season. Even if they play this year it’s going to be such a shortened season. I could envision many pitchers having struggles next year, especially if there’s no season at all this year. Something I hope that the Brewers are ahead of others and more intelligently planning for.
  6. Yup RIP. Joe Diffie was my first concert, went for free at the Coliseum during Dane County Fair circa 1993.
  7. After his wife had Covid-19 and recovered, John Prine is now in rough shape and has been intubated. Prine is an all-time favorite of mine. So many amazing songs, his catalogue just goes on and on. Hoping he pulls through, he's a true treasure. I guess I wish him all the best.
  8. Not sure where this belongs, but since I believe it was related to covid-19. I'll put it here. Two nights ago I walked the dog and noticed the constellation Orion (about the only one I know and that is because I can't get enough of the show Ancient Aliens). Anyway, one of Orions feature is Orions belt - 3 stars on nearly a straight line. So as I am scanning the sky I notice to my west 4 stars in a straight line. Thinking that is strange I stared at it for a while and I realized the stars were moving. Not stars, but planes. I followed the line and counted 7 planes in all. Then there was 9 more. I went inside for a while and got curious so about 5-10 minutes later I went back out and saw 7 more. So that was 23 planes that I saw, and who knows how many before or after I quit watching, all on the exact same flight path, spaced about a minute apart. I have no idea what was happening. My first thought was reserves being sent to New York area, or supplies being sent that way. I mentioned it to my neighbors and she said that a pilot friend of hers had talked about all the cancelled flights and her guess was that they were sending all the planes to one airport for storage. She mentioned Indy, but I don't feel like they were heading that far south. So, if it is the latter then at least air travel has been significantly reduced. If you want to find out what planes are in the sky, where they came from, where they’re going, and other info.... flightradar24 is a great site.
  9. But leftover pizza is a wonderful breakfast. Possibly the best of them all.
  10. What’s your objective? If it’s to speculate, I’d go with the iShares Silver Trust ETF (ticker: SLV). The transaction costs on trading physical gold and silver will eat into your profits. Do you have sales tax in Alaska? It’s a killer in Wisconsin for trading physical precious metals. You pay a 5% premium to buy, but you don’t get it back when you sell. The state keeps it. No statewide sales tax, just city sales taxes in some towns. There are dealerships over in anchorage for gold and silver, and no city tax there. But that’s a 400 mile plane ride away. My objective of course is buy low and sell high. Just following prices it seems like there may be a good opportunity right now, trying to figure out a smooth way to do it and of course most importantly not get burned.
  11. Metals are plummeting. Does anyone have a source they would recommend from their own experience buying and selling?
  12. Our school district here is shutting down at least next week, perhaps longer. Now I've got to try to get a flight home from the coast before they shut down flights altogether and I'm stuck in the village with nothing to do. Shouldn't be a problem, the wind is only blowing 30 knots today.
  13. PeaveyFury’s point about innings limits for Peralta and Burnes is something I’d been considering as well. I have no idea what their innings limits are. One thing I do know is this: I can accept starting a guy in the pen to preserve depth early in the year no problem. However, I probably start to fault decisions and get grumpy when we have to shut down a good pitcher during a pennant race because of innings limits. Edit to clarify: the decision I’d fault would be the decision that lead to reaching an innings limit, not the decision to shut down an arm when that limit has been reached.
  14. The first time they are putting out a line up that is mostly actual starters. Cain Smoak Yelich Hiura Narvaez Garcia Holt Gyorko Mathias BTW... I was today years old when I realized it was Narvaez instead of Navarez... I believe we agreed on El Narvdog a while back.
  15. There’s a great Yount one that I cannot find. Hit in front of him he’s sprinting off the crack of the bat and makes the diving catch fully extended. I’m sure many remember it, thanks in advance if anyone manages to find it.
  16. Save by Potter tip out to Davison for the 3 and lead perhaps play of the game. Big win. Nice job.
  17. I thought for sure they’d call a foul on that moving pick they set on Trice. Instead Jackson gets the rebound and 4th on Potter. Oy....
  18. Hah no not quite. Big difference, though. Soderberg took a final four team that returned mostly intact, to a 16-10 record and got bounced in the first round of NCAA. Gard took over a NCAA runner up team that had lost a lot of talent and struggled for a while, but they rallied to finish strong and make the sweet 16.
  19. Given the current roster, prospects, and organization philosophy, I’m not convinced there will be a rebuild during Yelich’s tenure with the Brewers. Time will tell.
  20. I read LoMo’s quote about not going to AAA and had to wonder what that means. It’s possible he could get an mlb deal somewhere else after spring training if he doesn’t make the roster, but I wouldn’t call it a given. Does he mean he’ll retire, go overseas, or is he just trying to force Milwaukee’s hand?
  21. The metals all dropped last week. I was hoping palladium had fallen way down but no. I wish I'd gotten in on palladium a year or two ago....
  22. To me he looks much less off-balance.
  23. I wonder how much of Trevor Hoffman’s legacy lives on in Milwaukee’s bullpen conditioning culture. It really seemed to help the group grind through the season and stay in good physical condition under his leadership.
  24. Re: the Usain Bolt comment. That’s something I’ve daydreamt about during expanded roster times in years past. Not Bolt specifically, but some world class sprinter who is not a baseball player but studied and practiced base running to be a pinch runner. Would it work? No idea but it’d be interesting.
