I don't think the Vent Thread was utilized today. I guess we're all learning how to handle the ups and downs of following a good, playoff-caliber baseball team more effectively three months into the season.

Personally, I would have spent all day in the vent thread, if it hadn't been for all of the self-appointed therapists on this board who point out that it's a long season and teams lose games. I actually wasn't aware of it until it got pointed out a million times during every loss. See, it wasn't just that I would be mad or disappointed we lost. Nope, that couldn't be it. It went so much deeper. I thought the sky was falling. I was jumping ship.

Now, losing 2 of 3 to the Cubs doesn't bother me at all. Thanks to all involved, for saving me from myself.

Midway through Thursday's game, I suddenly feel quite good about the "work" work I'm supposed to be doing. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/indifferent.gif

Sorry; silver-lining-wise, that's all I've got.

My silver lining thoughts on this 5th of July:

If the Crew wins 2 of 3 in Washington, they will be 50-38 at the break. Pretty nice!

On this 9 game trip through Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Washington, the Crew is 2-0 when the score 10 or more runs in a game!!! (Should this be blue? I don't think so but it is true :)

The Brewers face a lefty to start the Washington series -- Mike Bacsik. The other two starters in the series are Jason Simontacchi and Mike Redding.

I shaved my beard so when I go outside my face doesn't get hot anymore

i hear you there, I also shaved mine. Not only was it hot, it itched bad. The Nats are horrible so maybe I'll start another right along with the Brewers starting a winning streak.

The Brewers are standing at 48 wins on July 5. SInce the year 2000, here are the National League teams with at least that many wins on this date:

2000: Atlanta (50-34), St Louis (50-33), Arizona (49-35)

2001: Arizona (51-33), Chicago (49-34), Philly (48-36)

2002: Atlanta (55-31), LA (53-33), Arizona (51-34)

2003: Atlanta (54-31), San Fran (52-34)

2004: St Louis (50-32)

2005: St Louis (53-30), Washington (51-32)

2006: New York (50-34)

Obviously, record after an equal number of games would be a better point of comparison, but the date is close enough for my purposes. The point is, even with the Brewers not playing especially well at times, they're still in first place, and have one of the best records in the National League and are in a very good position to win their division. Ten of the 15 teams on this list went on to make the playoffs. After 25 years of waiting, I'll take those odds with this young team.

I guess the big question is, do you think these Brewers are more like the '05 Nats than they are last year's Cards?

Just remember that the team chasing the Crew has perfected the art of choking over the last 99 years. Living in Chicago, I am confident the Cubbies will find a way to not win the Central!

The Vent Thread is only on page 59! Most seasons, we're on page 59 at the end of May!

I'm clinging to extreme hope that it does not reach to page 90 this season.

Even the Cubs lost a game in Washington. It happens. Dust off and move on. Cappy's due. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I'm looking forward to the All-Star break as a 4-day reprieve from worrying about losing ground in the standings. Is something wrong with me? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

There seems to be approximately one page added per loss nowadays, so you can do the math. I'm not sure losses that may occur after a potential clinching of a playoff birth would count, but it's a little more than one page for bullpen flare ups. Losing streaks add eight to ten pages, which is really what adds bulk to the thread.

Not unless there's also something wrong with me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Though I'm going to struggle not to worry about all-star injuries and/or jinxes.

After Saturday's game I went downstairs and said glumly (and mostly sarcastically) to the S.O., "The Brewers are doomed." His response: If someone had told you in March that the Brewers would be leading the NL Central at the all-star break, would you be happy or glum?

Personally being a Brewer fan for 29 years, I am estatic that our very own Milwaukee Brewers have a 4.5 game lead heading into the all star break. Sometimes I never thought I would see that day.

I'm thankful we all have a 3-day break from Brewers games. The higher the stakes are, the more everyone seems to be at each others throat. I haven't seen this bad of a combination of thin skin and talk-down-i-ness since certain posters who are no longer with us were here.

Enjoy the HR derby, grab a cold one, and enjoy a few summer days outside.

Better yet, I count a 4-day break! for most of the Brewers, anyway.

well, that's kind of why I said I'm holding out for extreme hope--that we DON'T lose 30-ish or more games in the second half. Is it probably? No, but a man can hope we go off on a tear in August and September.

I just took a final look at the standings and to see the Brewers in first place at the break after a questionable road trip is pleasing.

This has also been an extremely exciting first half and I've been fortunate to get out to the ballpark 14 times. This team is fun to watch and should be together for many years.
