GAGNE PURCHASES 5,000 TICKETS TO BE GIVEN FREE TO FANS TONIGHT

TICKETS TO BE GIVEN AWAY AT BREWERS.COM BEGINNING AT 3:30 PM

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Eric Gagne today purchased 5,000 tickets to be given away to Brewers fans for tonight's game. The idea for the plan originated with Gagne, who approached Brewers officials late last night to discuss the logistics.

"Tonight we'll be playing one of the most important games in franchise history, and I can think of no better way to thank the fans than giving families an opportunity to pack Miller Park," Gagne said. "No matter what happens over these next four games, I want everyone to know that I think the world of Brewers fans. Three million times they have walked through the gates this year and none of us on the field takes their support for granted. We're going to have some fun out here, and I know that the atmosphere will be electric."

Starting at 3:30, fans can go to Brewers.com to request up to four tickets. Simply click on the "Gagne Giveaway"[/i] graphic to go to the ticket request page and enter Gagne as the password when prompted. Fans requesting the complimentary tickets will be subject to a one-time $2.00 fee for printing their ticket order at home, or a $4.00 per order fee for picking at Miller Park will call.

The tickets are first come, first served, and the inventory of 5,000 available is expected to be exhausted quickly.

Gagne has also put in a special request for fans to support this weekend's Drive for Charity[/i] along with Northwestern Mutual. Participating fans will have the opportunity to receive a J.J. Hardy collectible Brewers pin with the donation of new or gently used winter coats. Donations will be accepted throughout the Chicago series from the gate opening through the second inning at the Left Field, Right Field, and Home Plate Gate entrances.

For the most part we all have been all over him this year, and has taken some big time booing at MP but this is a very very cool thing that he is doing.

That's a real classy thing to do. I've given Gagne as hard of time as anyone, but he's not a bad guy. I hope this helps pack Miller Park tonight.

What a class act. Say what you will about his pitching, but he's been nothing but generous and gracious during his season in Milwaukee.

I assume these are terrace seats?

This is why I don't boo guys just for sucking at baseball. They are still decent people for the most part.

Wow I wish I didnt live in Eau Claire. Nice job Gagne. Pretty classy even after the booing that he has been getting. I would expect him to hold a grudge or something, but this is a nice act by Mr Gagne.

Eric knows as well as anyone that he has not been worth 10 million dollars this year. I guess this is his way of apologizing to us. It should really be the other way around considering how fans have treated him.

Taking Gagne up on his offer will get you 2 free games (including the voucher for next year). How rare is that for a franchise that hasn't had any trouble filling the stadium this season?

Same here, jjfan -- kill 'em with kindness, I guess. Classy stuff, Eric. Well done.

Totally understand that perspective, but mine is almost the polar opposite. This is why I exclusively cheer or boo (when I do boo, which is almost never) guys solely based on whether they are good or bad at baseball. I really have no idea whether they are bad people or good people, and I try very hard never to make any attempt to infer as much from their public actions of charity/selfishness or their comments/behavior toward media types.

Gagne almost certainly used steroids -- for some people that is plenty enough to brand him a jerk for life.

could you just imagine if someone who gets the free tickets for the game and then wins on of the giveaways? talk about an awesome night thanks to Gagne!!
Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though

It let me in to the virtual waiting room, only to time out and kick me back to the first page. And it won't let me back in.

Still and all, classy gesture by Gagne.
