I'm with you on the Cubs fans, And That.

And I was shocked to see JJ's BA was back under .300. It didn't seem like he had been doing that poorly, but you may be right.

As for people calling bad things to happen, when bad things happen enough, people expect them. If Ned leaving a pitcher in one or two batters too long costs us 10 games over his tenure, people expect it after that. If we have runners on second and third and fail to score them enough times, people will stop being excited about it and expect us to fail. It is just the same as how people expect Brett Favre to make that miracle 4th quarter comeback because he has done it so many times, or they expect Bill Hall to get the game winning hit because he's done that more than a few times in his career. I realize people's expectations many times are 'statistically implausible', but that doesn't change them, lol.

Johnny Estrada could be one of the best hitting catchers in the game if he just learned to take a few pitches and be selective

I really don't think so AndThat. He is a pure guess hitter. He literally has no clue what is coming, nor does he care to even improve slightly in that area. I don't think his bat is quick enough or his swing good enough to be even close to one of the best hitting catchers around. He ends up with 10-16 total luck, "cheap" basehits every year and people think he's a ".300 hitting catcher." He's simply not good, and that is why no team has held onto him.

The fact that he's in the top 5 slowest major leaguers doesn't help either.

my prediction-cubs win the division and estrada won't be batting 5th tomorrow

to heck with him batting 5th, to heck with bush melting down, to heck with yost, to heck with JJ swinging at pitches at his eyes, to heck with counsell, to heck with shouse..i wanted to use other words but I like the site to much to get banned

Bushes 7th:

walk, single, single.

The notion that Bush had obviously lost it simply isn't true. It's easy to claim a manager should pull his starter after the 5th anytime he gets into any kind of jam but it's not realistic.

Sure if there is no track record with Bush. Bush has a track record of coming apart quickly. Ned has had him for how many seasons? How many times have we seen this movie before. Bush walks the lead off hitter or plunks him with a pitch or gives up a screwming double into the right feild corner. What does that signal in the 6th or 7th inning of a close game, it is time to get Bush.

Any idiot can go get a pitcher once he is a full blown mess. Part of Ned's job is to know his pitcher, not to project his iwish and dreams on them. Bush is a six inning pitcher. He is not the little bulldog who battles himself out of jams. Late in the game he doesn't do anything but get torched. At this point a good manager would know how to use Bush to give him the best chance to win. Bush isn't a tough luck pitcher he is poorly managed one.

I have been careful not to rip Ned but tonight's loss frustrates me more than any loss all season.

Another reason is Estrada hitting 5th. It has bothered me for weeks and no one can give me rationale reason why Ned sticks him in the 5 hole every f---ing night. His inability to be patient to get qa pitch to drive in RBI situations is obvious even to a dolt like me. I mean the guy has killed so many innings with hsi crappy at bats early in games that it is becoming an embarassment.

how many games have we lost this year because of 1 inning? I am getting sick of that

Both hitting wise and pitching wise lately it seems.

I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that this is in fact not the Brewers' year. They'll have a better team next year with all the young position players getting another year of experience, and on the staff with Gallardo in the rotation. I hope they prove me wrong, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if this team is still in first place at the end of July.

I agree. They are not playing at a level that can win the world series. That's the goal. Those first 2 innings were repulsive.

Worst of all, this game was in HD! Thanks for letting me know on my guide Time Warner!

Also, I'd just like to point out that I try to be optimistic, especially when it comes to the Brewers, but it just seems that even though the team is struggling somewhat as of late that Ned is trying to mix things up to right the ship.

Unfortunately it seems he's not mixing up the things that could use mixing.

You'll have to expand on that a little bit. Not their year to win the World Series? I would be inclined to agree.

Not their year to win the division? I would have to disagree with this because they are no worse than any of the other "contenders."

Not their year to finish above .500? Let's hope that's not the case.

Tonight's game stunk, but there's another one tomorrow. Hopefully that one stinks less

This would be in violation of our rules. Using alternate spellings to get around the cuss filter isn't allowed.

After Bush gave up the first single in the 7th, I was really hoping Yost would hand the ball over to Wise to finish off the inning. I think Yost left Bush in one batter too long.

No he doesn't, he has 2 games this year where he came apart and 2 games where he got dinked and dunked with 3 base runners and then the bullpen let in all the runs and one of those games was on Yost who left him in too long early in the season after 90 pitches.

For his career he has been strong at 80-100 pitches compared to early in the game where most of his problems have happened. Yost may have left him in for 1 too many batters but Bush is not to blame for this loss, the bullpen and the offense are to blame.

From 04' - 06' Bush has given up a .695 OPS against during innings 4-6 and a .550 OPS against from innings 7 - 9. His track record is that he actually gets stronger as he goes on. Now, the 7th inning has been disastrous for Bush this year but we can either believe that those 17 AB are a fluke and the previous 3 years are representative of his true abilities or we can believe that Yost should know that Bush will always fail late in the games.

Baseball fans just love to remember back 4 weeks and pretend that whatever happened during that period is obviously going to keep happening. That's not how baseball works.

I can only say this under the protective veil of the vent thread. Rluz, you are starting to piss me off with that avatar. It makes my blood pressure rise every time I see it. I had to cut out salty snacks because of that avatar. Thanks a lot.

This is not directed at you, but I am so tired of hearing "we'll be better next year." We've been hearing that for so long that it's tough to have a lot of confidence in the statement.

Several years ago, a lot of us projected the team to get back to .500 in 2005, (they did), at least flirt with the playoffs in 2006, (that failed, but injuries played a big part in that), and look to contend for a World Series in 2007. This team sure doesn't look like it can compete with the Mets or Braves in a 5 or 7 game series if it can make the playoffs.

Why should we be so much better next year? Because Prince, Hardy, Weeks, and Braun have another year under their belts? How do we know they won't regress like Hall is doing? Will Gallardo pitch like an ace in his rookie campaign? Will we even have CoCo back? Tell me we'd be more than a .500 team without CoCo this year, I don't know that we would be.

This team has the talent to compete in ANY division. Melvin has assembled a rotation that should be among the league's best. The bullpen features a couple all-star closers including the current best closer in baesball, as well as other good players. The lineup includes two star infielders in Prince and Hardy, and two players absolutely loaded with talent in Braun and Weeks, who is now in his 3rd year. The oufield features a very solid platoon in LF, the reigning team MVP in CF, and Hart, who could be a very effective RF both in the field and with the bat and his speed.

This lineup doesn't include Hammonds, Vander Wal, Helms, etc. The rotation doesn't include Ruben Quevedo, Gary Glover, and Wes Obermueller. The pen doesn't have a very soft tossing aging reliever.

Face it, this team may have more talent than any Brewer's team since '82. If they fail to acheive .500 with this team, I'm sorry, but I think that would be Ned's ticket out of town. Got to be able to take us to the next level at this pont.

If they miss the playoffs, I guess that'll depend on if they were 6 games out at 82-80, or just a game out at 89-73, for example.

Either way, the talent is there, and the NL Central has never been more ripe for the taking. Failing is not an option this year. I'm not saying World Series, but we damn well better start winning some series' and take this division. There isn't a single other team there that really deserves it. Don't fall into the same category, please.

Get a killer instinct!!!

I'm tired of taking 1 run with 2nd and 3rd with one out and being happy with it.

I'm tired of 2/3 when it should be a sweep. This team needs to learn how to put the spikes to the throat and apply pressure! I feel like this team is AFRAID to win and it makes me want to puke!
