[ Say Brian, when you were going through the "bargaining" stage, did it ever get so bad that you were willing to give up your soul to the forces of evil for a Brewer division title? Because I'm worried I might be tempted to do that when I get to that stage... ]

Something needs to be done. Whether it's bringing up Gallardo, or doing something, something needs to be done. We need to go on a tear, now.

Just imagine how much they could have been up on second place if they could have just went .500 over the last 30 days, it'll turn around...

I kind of wanted them to show Melvin as the letdown was going on. I'm sure it wasn't a pretty picture because not everyone can keep a straight face in a letdown like Yost.

I am sick of settling for this "we are still in first place crap" its time to take the next step up, and right now that is their biggest problem. Its time to stop settling for losing. That has been what we have done for the last 15 years!!!

]"I'm very pleased[/b] with the way they're going about their business and the way they're playing, for the most part," Yost said of his team.

Really Ned? Now I'm not in the clubhouse and don't see the things you see but I've watched every game this year and the past month has been excruciating. How can you be pleased with the way they're playing?

Quote:
"I really don't look at it as offensive woes," he said. "We're just not scoring enough runs to win right now. The reason we're not scoring enough runs is because our pitching is giving up too many runs, plain and simple."

Now I agree with him that pitching is giving up a lot of runs but how many of those breakout innings could have been avoided by better bullpen management, or pulling a starter before he imploded?

And if you're going to semi call out the pitching you damn well better do the same for the hitters because they've been brutal during this stretch as well.

Quote:
Everybody has their little streaks. These guys can get on a roll and go a long time in-between bad starts. They're that good."

Ned, this has been going on for a month. It isn't a "little streak" anymore. And while they may be that good they certainly haven't shown it.

Quote:
"It's a whole year," he said. "I don't look at 9-18. You guys have fun doing that. I look at today."

Yes Ned it's a whole year but stretches like this can cause teams to go into a tailspin that they don't come out of. It's good to focus on today but 9-19 now of the past 28 games is horrid and it could end up costing us a playoff berth.

Now didn't Jim Leyland go off on his team in the media early last year when they were struggling? After that they took off and made the playoffs for the first time in what 19 years? I wish Ned would do that just once instead of feeding everybody the "we're not panicking, everything is okay we'll turn it around" line that I've become so familiar with.

Yost needs to learn to do more than sit on the bench and watch his team lose (aside from his occasional meaningless fight with the umps). He is the manager, for pete's sake! When your closer is pitching this poorly he needs to be taken out! It's like Yost is completely unaware of what is happening on the field!

But you can't place all of the blame on Ned; part of the blame also belongs to Doug Melvin, and Mark Attanasio for not firing such a completely inept manager. If the Brewers don't have a new manager by Monday I will seriously consider becoming a Cubs fan (well, almost).

He would have needed to have someone who he trusts more than CoCo warming up in the pen. Given most of those hits were cheapies, I don't disagree with his logic.

with the last one being hit right where the 2b should be playing, but he was moved over towards the middle giving up the whole right side. just stupid

We've scored 3 or less runs in 16 of our last 24 games, and the pitching is to blame? I didn't know we had the kind of staff we could expect to have a sub 3 ERA. Throwing the pitchers under the bus doesn't do justice to the ineptitude of the offense in this awful stretch of games.

I'm not sure what shift they had on and whether it was appropriate or not, but let me say that when the shift works, you generally don't notice... when it doesn't work, it's obvious.

Yet the fact remains that Cordero gave up FOUR RUNS! You can't allow your closer to give up four runs without taking him out of the game! I don't care who you replace him with, even I could pitch that well!

why would you play a shift with a batter like young up? or even a shift at all when the game is on the line? wouldn't you play it straight up? so many questions, but no answers.

A .730 OPS with RISP this year is probably the biggest problem.

The good news, is that these kinds of things generally even out. The bad news, is that there's no real way to "trigger" a change in this stat.

I'll take the dude with the 0.60 ERA giving up seeing eye singles and lucky whacks at balls outside the strike zone vs. any other arm in my bullpen any day of the week.

Its very hard to blame Yost for this as none of the balls hit off Cordero were all that hard and in reality he had already K'd a guy for the 3rd out it just wasn't called a K.

Yost has a uniform...why doesn't he get out there and pitch? Come on Ned, do something!

stop trying to be positive, its the vent thread...and you're not venting. but then again, its your site, you can do as you please.

I can't get over this loss, normally I can get over it after being mad for a few min. This one still ticks me off still.

But he couldn't get the final out! I would rather have brought in someone out of the bullpen, if for no other reason than the chance that he would get a strikeout. Whether it was Cordero's fault or not is irrelevant, what we really needed was an out.

Maybe a bomb threat to stop the "momentum".

If there was ever a time for a swarm of killer bee's to come into a baseball stadium the bottom of the 9th inning tonight was that time.

I'm going to vent on the vent thread. Its one thing to be upset at the result of tonights game. Its another to blame Yost that Mr. Perfect Cordero became human tonight. Would you have preferred Capellan? Perhaps Spurling would tickle your fancy?

Sometimes you can make the right decisions and get the wrong result.

Why does someone other than Cordero have a chance at getting a strikeout? He's got the best stuff of anyone, and it was ON tonight. No one throws harder, and no one's ball has more movement on it.

At that point in the game, Yost's hands are tied. Unless you really want to see Chris Spurling trying to get the save. Capellan and Villanueva mopped up yesterday. Lofton is pretty much the only guy I'd have wanted Shouse to face, as we know Shouse vs. RHB is a hit waiting to happen. Wise was probably available, but it is unlikely he may have been ready by the time the game was over unless he had been warming from the start of the inning. Your closer will have blown saves, it happens. It was just an unfortunate time for it to catch up with CoCo.

All these what-ifs. Cordero is your closer. He has that role for a reason. You don't take out your CLOSER. What does that do to his confidence? He was 23 for 23. You think they would just take him out?
