Saw Halloween Kills.

It delivered exactly what I expected... Entertainment!

You can't go to these movies and expect great storylines, etc. You know what you are getting before you step into the theatre...

You know you aren't getting some Cannes film with Halloween...but the one from 2018 seemed to do a nice job of entertaining and at least inserting a plausible story given the circumstances. I love Michael, just thought this one was a lot less creative than the last.

Saw Dune on Friday. Completely blown away, which I haven't been by a movie in a long long time. The visuals are everything we've been told they would be, and the soundtrack is outstanding.

I liked the new Venom movie but that is me. I would like just about anything with Venom in it. Probably my second favorite comic book character behind Deadpool. If you are not really into the MCU or comic books probably best to stay away.

I've seen every Marvel and DC movie... I always enjoy them, which is why I continue going.

I just got sling for the baseball playoffs but after the Brewers were out, I started watching the most recent DC films. I agree with the critics that DC can't seem to do heroes well, but has great villains. Aquaman and Batman vs. Superman were terrible. Wonder Woman wasn't bad, but the story never seemed to pull me in. Green Lantern was ok. Suicide Squad was very good (though I still can't stand this Joker). Justice League was pretty good and the best DC hero movie I've seen (of these recent DC comic based movies).

The Christian Bale Batman series is still the best by far of any of the DC comic movies.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I watched "2012" last weekend. I hadn't seen it since it was released in 2009. It just doesn't seem that long ago.

2012 is NOT a Must See movie.

Back to films that released in the 2020s, I checked out Last Night in Soho for a $5 Tuesday. Don't know if it qualifies as "Must-see," but I genuinely enjoyed it; definitely went in directions I did not expect...which is as much as I want to say while avoiding spoilers.

I don't think this thread has to deal with current movies only, if so, it has never been stated that way.

Went even back further to 1985 with Rocky vs. Drago. I saw the original at the theater with my dad when I was 8 and loved it then and a guilty pleasure since then. Saw it again at the theater last night and enjoyed it, made better seeing it with a crowd again. The extra 40 minutes appeared to be marketing as I can't imagine that being true but could tell that Stallone wanted to improve the film and gave Apollo Creed some more respect and screen time with this cut. Makes sense after the success of the two Creed movies and Drago appearing in the second one. Some of the more tacky stuff was removed from this version but still has those Rocky montages, the Rocky/Drago fight was also a bit longer but probably no more than a couple of minutes. If you like the Rocky movies I do think it is worth the $4 rental.

Watched Repo Man for the first time since probably the 80’s. Awesome movie and it has aged much better than all those John Hughes flicks. Sort of seems like a Tarantino movie at times, was thinking I am surprised Harry Dean Stanton wasn’t a Tarantino regular. Great soundtrack too.

Watched 8MM tonight.

Not a bad movie, entertaining, but not a keeper.

I've started going through my extensive DVD collection from A-Z, hoping to get rid of a bunch to clear some space. I have about 700 or so.

This one will not make the cut.

Not a rap fan at all, but enjoyed "8 Mile" this weekend.

It actually makes Eminem into a likeable guy, but I'm not so sure that would be the case in real life.

It also only covers a short period in his life before he hits it big.

Worth watching for sure, even if you are not into the rap stuff, like myself...

I'll be different in saying I didn't like Dune at all. I would have walked out of the theater if it weren't for the fact my daughter sleeping sitting next to me. Last movie I went to that I walked out of was Anaconda.

Venom was worthwhile for a theater go to. The end is what you want see to guarantee another ticket bought on the next Venom movie in theaters.

Jungle Cruise was it? Duane Johnson movie. I'd call a not must see movie.

jungle cruise was exactly what I expected out of a Rock/Disney event movie. lots of action scenes, not a deep plot, etc. it wasn't bad, it wasn't great. just a popcorn flick designed to entertain and not make you think too much.

Two movies with 8 in the title? Next up, Super 8? Hateful 8?

lol

I'm watching my movie library alphabetically. Hateful 8 and Super 8 won't be on the docket for quite some time, but I will get to them eventually.

Weeding out some movies for space reasons... I have 700+ dvds, so it will take a long time.

Next up was "9" which was interesting, but not a keeper.

Watched "10" today. Hadn't seen that one in a long time. Bo was something, but again, nothing I'll need to see again.

Now to figure out what to do with all these dvds that I'm sure will be adding up over the next few months...

I watched Jungle Cruise this past weekend with my wife. It was fun. Sort of a cross between Pirates of the Caribbean, the Mummy, and Indiana Jones. Yes, it was silly. So many historical inaccuracies. But whatever. The leads were really likable (the Rock and Emily Blount), and things kept moving along.

Jungle Cruise is pretty much the definition of "less than the sum of its parts" movies. Especially as it's rather shameless about stealing from other better films.

It's good enough to be worth a watch. But once the new car shine wears off, I don't know why you'd ever rewatch it when you have the likes of The African Queen, The Mummy, Romancing the Stone, Indiana Jones, and PotC right there for the picking.

You should look up the fella who was collecting DVDs and his house burned down. People from all over sent him their unused DVDs and his reaction is amazing. The young man has some needs and this act of kindness from strangers makes you feel good.

Edit: whoa. This happened in 2017. Did not realize that.

I’m going to see Ghostbusters tonight - it’s probably the 4th or 5th movie I’ve seen in theaters in the past 10 years. Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t have a streaming platform, so it could be months before I can watch this movie in my own home. You’d think a large studio like that could figure out how to charge me $30 to stream a new release right away, especially in a post-COVID world. I’d pay a premium to avoid the crowds.

Speaking of movies with 8 in the title, saw 8 Bit Christmas on HBO Max. I was a kid in the 80s and actually had to wait longer than many and finally got one for my birthday in 1989 so can relate. If you grew up back then some of the details don't make sense like a Power Glove in 88 and it wasn't real difficult to get one by Christmas 88 and many kids had one by then. However, that is nitpicking, it was a fun little movie that even made the Billy Ripken baseball card an important part of the movie.
