I think we are all definitely Nats fans today. Other than that, though, I'm not 100% sure who to root for in the other two games. I guess I don't want to see the Cardinals in the playoffs at all, so I'm rooting for Arizona to win and climb the Wild Card standings, along with the Dodgers. I guess all these Wild Card contenders beating up on each other is a good thing for the Brewers regardless.

Or I guess Arizona could lose to help solidify Colorado as a playoff team.

My gut had me thinking we should be going for STL, WAS, COL. Keep LA out and feel comfortable that we're ahead of STL by enough to not worry about them. Then I thought about it and remembered we still play STL so we should worry about WC spot #1 first. So I'm going LAD, COL, WAS

Yeah, I think I'd rather by 4 up on LAD and 3 up on STL than 5 and 2 respectively.

I think I will go with AZ as well, since that would put us 3.5 up on CO should they fade. Bigger difference between 2.5 and 3.5 than 6 and 7.

This 4 game set with STL and LAD is a nice thing. If one team takes 3 of 4 or better than the other is in a really tough spot. If they split... then neither is likely (knock on wood) of gaining any ground on us. Easy way to tick a couple off of the magic number without much thought.

I want Arizona to rattle off some wins leading up to that Cubs series next week. I want AZ to be on a little roll and still playing meaningful games next week so they're motivated to pound the Cubs.

I think I'm just rooting for a split between the Cards and Dodgers.

A fun day of late afternoon baseball aint a bad thing when the Brewers are off tonight.

Other than the Cubs losing - I don't care who wins the LAD/STL series. It's good for the Brewers regardless. Brewers just need to keep winning their own games...the rest will sort itself out.

I can't believe they are playing that game today in DC. Mostly cloudy, upper 70s high, 10 mph wind, basically 0 chance of rain. All the residents of DC should take shelter from such terrible weather. MLB is actively trying to screw the cubs by forcing them to play in this.

So, pretty much the same rain conditions as the game the Cubs "cancelled" vs the Crew last year, then? ;)

I know Dbacks are competition for us, but we should be pulling for them to do well for the next week or so. We want them to feel like they still have a shot when they face the Cubs early next week.

Joe Ross hasn't thrown an inning in the majors all year until today?

So if one wants to pursue conspiracy theories about why Scherzer isn't starting...

Washington Nationals baseball boss Mike Rizzo grew up on Waveland Avenue...

This is the family business. The son of a longtime scout, Rizzo keeps his father, Phil, around as a senior advisor who still takes in games at Wrigley Field

“Rizz and I go way back,” said Maddon, who managed the Class-A infielder in 1982 in Salem, Oregon, where the California Angels had a branch of their farm system

It gets worse! :)

The Nationals began their managerial search looking for someone capable of taking over a talented roster and leading them to a World Series championship. They believe they have found that man, as they wrapped up their 10-day search Monday afternoon by naming Dave Martinez the seventh manager in team history.

This will be the first managerial job of Martinez's career, although he comes with decades of experience in baseball. He played for 16 seasons as a Major League outfielder and has spent the past 10 seasons as the bench coach for Joe Maddon with the Rays and Cubs.
