2020 Trade Targets

Actually kind of surprised Nick Castellanos isn't on the list, does he have a no trade? Would seem to be a slam dunk that he will opt out this season as he will only be 29 during the 2021 season and has some prime year left.

MLB Trade Rumors posted their Top 50 Trade Deadline Candidates yesterday.

Tommy LaStella could make sense to upgrade the Sogard role of a LH platoon bat at 2B/3B. Impending free agent, and not a Qualifying Offer candidate either, so shouldn't cost too much.

And on a half-joking note; Can we just sign the likes of Adam Frazier, Colin Moran and Gregory Polanco just so we don't have to face them in our annual Pirates sweep?

I'd gladly take Moran or Frazier, plug them in at 3B for this team, and not look back. I personally hate the idea of never trading within the division.

I don’t really see the appeal of Frazier, but Moran makes a lot of sense. They’ll need 2 corner IF bats and I hope one or both are LHB.

Under 72 hours left until the trade deadline. I don’t expect much in terms of moves that will have significant short term impact, but I am really hoping we see a player or two acquired with future control that begin to give us an idea of what the 2021 roster construction might be.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

I'm not really the type that typically wants to see a move simply to see a move, but this year I'm all for it. This roster needs a shake-up. This team has no personality right now. It needs an infusion of energy.

The Padres are about to acquire 1B Mitch Moreland who was mentioned earlier in this thread. He’s been outstanding this season, including a 1.177 OPS through his first 67 plate appearances.

Edit: Now official from Jeff Passan...

Mitch Moreland has been traded to the San Diego Padres, as Robert Murray reported. Outfielder Jeisson Rosario and third baseman Hudson Potts are headed back to Boston. Padres had an upcoming roster crunch this winter and Boston gets a couple of good prospects back.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

If we trade burnes it better be for a monster package and even then I will be so disappointed.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

The Rangers are listening in on Gallo. He’s be a great 1B/DH/OF next year. And he strikes out enough for Stearns to want him too

I’d be glad if the Reds wanted to rid themselves of Castellanos and Moose’s contract and left them in Milwaukee after today.

Moose has been ok at best this year. Why would we go from not wanting to give Moose a big contract, to wanting to not only do so but to give up something for the privilege of paying him?

Trading Burnes just doesn't make any sense to me unless you're getting an overpay. I would guess teams are making lowball offers based on his 2019. No thanks.

Phelps and Anderson are worth next to nothing. You'll get something but you'll have to look up the name.

We wouldn’t but many fans don’t really care about money ......they just want the players they want.

The Brewers are in a weird position being on the cusp of the playoffs while have an offense that is confused. I don't if we are buying or selling, which is a weird spot to be in. I don't think I see a big move either of those ways today (trading Hader or acquiring a name) ... but I think a small move in either direction will be done. I tend to lean towards a small sell move (Phelps more than Anderson) or something like this and counting on the offense to wake up a bit to give us a playoff push. I don't know that Stearns wants to give Phelps $4.5 mil next year with the option so I think he is most likely to move today?

Arcia is another name to watch leading up to the trade deadline. He’s not the flashiest of names, but he would be a fine bench bat or middle infielder for a team in the hunt needing an upgrade or replacement for an injured player.

Padres just got Clevenger. Wow, they are really going all in! Wonder if the Dodgers feel any pressure to counter?

I know the Dodgers said no to Lux in a package for Lindor. However, as I asked in the Hader thread, if the Dodgers said Hader straight up for Lux, does Stearns say yes?

When was the last time there was a straight-up one-for-one star for prospect deal? I don't know if I can recall one.

I honestly don't recall one either. I'm merely throwing it out there.

I don't know if 1 for 1 is even what the Brewers would look for. If you're arguably creating one hole by trading a player like Hader, wouldn't it be with the goal of using him as leverage to fill more than one hole in return?

Brett Lawrie for Shaun Marcum? I think that was 1 for 1 but that was like 10 years ago.
