Totally fine with this. Adds a left hander to the depth on that side of the infield. Not expecting a ton but if he can hit righties reasonably well this should suffice

Plus defense at 3B and (in an ideal scenario) a righty masher. Makes perfect sense for what our current roster needs.

2017-18 Shaw vs. RHP: .266/.359/.533/.892, .373 wOBA, 131 wRC+

2018-20 Urias vs. LHP: .337/.373/.500/.873, .372 wOBA, 133 wRC+

 

I don't think Urias is going to be the short-side of a platoon, but he can start at 3B against LHP and at SS against RHP.

Outside of 2019, Shaw has been anywhere from a decent to great player. Happy for him to be here again.

 

I hope it's one of those deals with a team option or two tacked on in case he returns to 4 WAR form.

On a minor league deal it's fine. I just don't have much hope there is anything left there. The way he ended up as a Brewer really left a bad taste in my mouth.

I remember Yelich saying last summer about how he talked with Travis Shaw almost every day. I'd sign Shaw as a 26th man who never plays if it means Yelich hits like he did in '18 and '19.

I like this. A Shaw/Robertson platoon could put up really decent numbers at 3B for not much money.

A great day for Brewers fans. Anderson and now Shaw is back in the mix. This gives them roster flexibility and an opportunity to get a LH portion of the 1B/3B combination. Good stuff!

I can’t get excited about this move but it’s understandable when you have nobody in the minors at 3B who is even remotely close. Just gonna have to keep going year to year on these low-tier guys until we can finally draft and develop a 3B.

I think Robertson is pretty safe.

 

Obviously Hiura, Wong and Urias are locks. Arcia and Robertson are probably close to it. If they keep 13 position players, it will probably be 4-5 outfielders, 5-6 infielders and the two catchers. That means Vogelbach and Shaw may be competing for one spot. I suppose they could keep both, but then that means only 4 OFers.

Shaw is also a very good first baseman IIRC.....which will come in handy as a late inning defensive replacement for Hiura......assuming he makes the team of course.
