Burnes, Woodruff, and Degrom are all jealous of Houser right now

 

Houser is probably wondering if there is a scoreboard error. When is the last time he's had 3 runs of run support let alone a 3 run lead?!

 

This is a really fun game so far. Decent pitching, great defense and a ton of hits. Gotta love it.

Guys who switched to AT&T TV, are you happy with it so far?

Had it for years. No problems. I spend too much on tv services, but whatever. Pay $115 for ATT, which includes sports channels, most movie channels. Also pay for Hulu, Prime, Netflix, I have Plex, Appletv, got a Chromecast stick somewhere. It’s my wife’s job to call whenever ATT raises the bill and talk them back down.

 

Have you considered just using MLB.TV? I'm happy with that option without having the whole TV subscription. Pay for the whole season for what you'd pay for a month of AT&T

completely agree since he had so much success in the bullpen and our pen looks like a lot of question marks.

The biggest issue for Houser is his career .853 OPS against left handed hitters. He is well suited for a role where he can face predominantly RHHs, and you can control that better out of the bullpen especially coming into a game started by a LHP.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Yeah we were doing this through 2 starts last year. Then the wheels fell off.

 

In addition there has been absolutely nothing special about Houser's start today whether he escapes this inning or not. Sometimes the breaks go your way, sometimes they don't. He's gotten the breaks today.

Worth noting that st louis is heavily rh. Their clear best 2 hitters are rh and I think they only have 3 total lh

It's also that I think he's a pretty darn good reliever when he can come in for just 1 or 2 innings and throw his best pitches and add a few ticks. I really don't think the pen has been that bad this year. Outside of a rough game by Rasmussen and Williams early struggles everyone has been OK. They haven't been perfect but I think they've been pretty good. If we had managed to score a few more runs we'd probably be talking about them as a strength but when they are put in a position where they have to be perfect for 3 or 4 innings a night or they blow a save they really can't win.

Just seeing him square up balls in the strike zone is a huge improvement over the first week of the season. I sort of hope they keep him 6th or lower in the order for awhile, it seems like he might be better suited to not have the added pressure of being one of the middle of the order bats right now.

Agreed, he is 1-3, but has EVs of 106, 104 and 102. His lone hit was his lowest EV.

Certainly Houser's Achilles is LHB, but he has slowly been improving there too - mostly dealing with control, consistency, and pitch sequences. He isn't going to be Woody or Burnes, but I think he can be a serviceable #3 or #4. He has a higher ceiling than many of our other SP options this year (after Woody, Burnes and Peralta), but that comes with a lower floor too.

Yeah I pushed Yardley from my brain I guess. To be fair Lindblom has kinda sucked as well...

 

I still think the pen as a whole hasn't been that bad but I guess it's not as good as I was initially thinking either.
