Yeah, I think I'll start to be more concerned about this injury if we don't see him in the T Rats lineup tonight. Seemed like a precautionary situation at first, but starting to approach 2 weeks here.

I attended the T Rats game in Cedar Rapids on May 30. I was surprised to see Mitchell in the lineup. He was penciled in at leadoff and was the designated hitter. He struck out in his first at bat and grounded out in his second. They replaced him before his third plate appearance due to caution.

 

I was surprised when my 13 year old son recognized his name. It looks like they've got a nice group of outfielders on the team with Mitchell, Howell and Ward. David Hamilton flashed the glove playing shortstop and Thomas Dillard looks like he came from the Vogelbach mold.

Probably not a popular view but I hope they take their time with him and don't force things at warp speed like they did with Hiura.

Let him get his AB's in at each level and allow the competition to make adjustments to the success he's having. That's where I feel like Hiura was done a disservice. They ran him up so fast through the levels they never allowed adjustments to be made BOTH ways. I believe you're now seeing the bi-product of that approach rear it's ugly head at the major league level when many here had him pegged as a star. He's struggling to make the adjustments he needs to perform at the major league level and to make matters worse, his confidence is in the toilet as a result.

I don't think they rushed Hiura in 2019 since he crushed MLB pitching. They rushed him in 2021 when they sent him down for 1 week when he really needed several months though.

From what we've heard of his approach, it could play well in this modern pitching era. I'd still take my time with him, and would like 150 plate appearances in Appleton at a minimum.

Mitchell turns 23 in September. Covid cost him time in the minors, but he was a drafted as a guy who was close to a finished product and nothing we saw in spring training he's not awed. If you slow play his advance and give him two more full minor league seasons after this, he'd be 25 years and 6 months old before he makes a major league impact. If they see him as a future All Star, he needs to be challenged, and be ready for the big leagues no later than 2023 when both Cain and JBJ and likely Garcia will all be gone. I see his ETA in Milwaukee sometime in the 2nd half of 2022.

A slight left hamstring issue is the only thing that has slowed down Mitchell in his first full season, and even that is past him now. The 2019 first-rounder out of UCLA has taken flight at High-A Wisconsin, where he owns a .321/.493/.518 line with 19 walks and seven stolen bases through 18 games. Mitchell’s speed, when not hampered by the strained hamstring, has been as advertised, and the left-handed hitter has picked up where he left off at the plate following a strong spring.

I’m optimistic because he has more walks than strikeouts at the moment. That seems to be a pretty rare skill.

You're right. I'd seen a a slow hitting stretch with Ks didn't catch he basically had same number of BBs. Almost .500OB. Wonder how long til they promote him should he keep that OB going? That higher level should have better control so the BB:K ratio should be harder to keep 1:1.
