Via Jeff Passan:

The Chicago White Sox are finalizing a deal to acquire closer Craig Kimbrel from the Chicago Cubs, sources tell ESPN.

The Cubs Bleacher Nation guy actually first broke the trade news (Link).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

It would be funny if Eloy Jimenez is the return.

I am curious to see the return since the White Sox farm system is, uh… not good.

According to Bob Nightengale…

The Cubs will receive second baseman Nick Madrigal and pitcher Codi Heuer from the White Sox for Craig Kimbrel.

As a non-Cubs fan, this trade is infuriating.

The only thing that would make this more annoying is if they had gotten that type of return from an NL team.

Enormous return for the Cubs. They did really well here. Heuer is really good. And of course, Madrigal has a ton of talent. Two MLB pieces. White Sox system sucks, though, so of course they needed to deal MLB pieces.

I can’t believe they haven’t unloaded Baez and Bryant.

If the Brewers ever do trade Josh Hader, it needs to be on deadline day.

You know, after seeing the trade I was thinking that this year would’ve been the perfect time to trade Hader if we weren’t competitive :laughing

Still have 80 minutes. Bryant is as good as gone. Baez probably, too. Other smaller pieces like Davies as well.

Come tonight, the Cubs roster is going to look Nashville Sounds-like.

As it should. Never halfass the rebuild. Get as many pieces as you can and then sign whoever in the off-season.

The question is, is Kimbrel the closer for the Sox, or does Hendriks remain the closer?

I am wondering for purely selfish reasons as I have Hendriks on 2 fantasy teams.

LOL. The guy behind me in the standings has Hendriks.

Risk is that it might take a season for Madrigal to return to form or he may never do so. I'm not sure what recovery from hamstring surgery looks like, especially for a player based around speed.

I'm actually pretty shocked that the Cubs and White Sox have made two trades...

I don't remember that happening before, much less twice within a couple of days.

I could be wrong though.
