Dunno what Yelich was watching there, but it wasn't the hitter or the batted ball

If is impossible to quantify how bad JBJ has been and that's before you find out he has made 12 million dollars for this trash season. Worst contract in the sport given the results.

For as fast as Yelich is. He certainly struggles to track down balls. That ball needs to be caught.

He took three steps back and then didn't even try to catch it in front of him.

It was a Braunian effort

In a National League game having two automatic outs in a 9 man lineup is just a ton of pressure on the other 7 spots. You cannot justify having Bradley in the lineup. It's August we have seen enough.

Isn’t it true that JBJ isn’t even a negative WAR player even as bad as he’s been? Makes you question that rating system a bit.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I think D-WAR and most defensive ratings systems are getting better with each passing year, and I think we would almost all agree that JBJ's defensive value is good. He's sitting at 0.0 WAR right now..... basically a replacement level player. The numbers say he's good defensively, awful offensively, and shouldn't be playing every day. Exactly what we already know.

True. I am sure he's been well above average on D. That being said I cannot figure a way that his glove has justified how bad he's been with the bat.

I don't mind the JBJ profile as a 5th OFer, but I think part of the disconnect in terms of all his value being on defense is that both Taylor (when healthy) and Cain are also pretty good defender, so it's a very modest benefit to swap out one of them defensively and a clear minus offensively.

Man. Machado was terrible that inning. Almost every hitter had an absolute meatball served to him at some point during their AB.

Suter giving up the HR is proving costly.

Tellez had his pitch with that FB, but he was under it

I think it's reasonable to figure that if Stearns had comfortably assumed that Taylor could put up a .750 (or heck, even a .700 - .725 OPS) for 200 - 300 AB's as the 4th OF, the JBJ signing would be completely moot. I just don't think they were 100% sure of what they had with Taylor, and with Old Man Cain coming off a dead season, they didn't feel comfortable (rightly so) counting on him to play more than 80 - 100 - 120 games.

I agree completely. I would add that if MLB did end up with a salary floor though JBJ would actually have quite a bit of value to certain teams. Either he's done and you get the benefit of tanking while spending a bunch of your money (and I'd rather try and develop pitchers with some defense). Or he bounces back with some of that offense and becomes tradeable at the next deadline.
