2021-09-30: Brewers (Anderson) at Cardinals (Happ) [Brewers lose, 4-3]

Kinda surprised they aren't riding Anderson a little deeper here. He's only at 61 pitches, and I'd be surprised if he makes the postseason roster.

Me as well. Tho, maybe what they are hinting at here is all Starters will make the Bullpen? Interesting development for sure. Maybe they are going to go entirely match-up and short-leash based in Game 3?

If they are ... it didn't work :(

To be clear: I mean Game 3 of the NLDS. LOL. Not Miguel Sanchez coming in here.

Remember when Sanchez was a solid option? Couns touted his performance in a pre or post game and then his regression just began and hasn't looked back it feels like.

Especially in hindsight after Sanchez promptly blows the lead.

Has a batter ever OPSd lower than 500 with the same number at bats JBJ has? Seems historic.

His single-season OPS+ of 35 would be lowest in Brewer history, overtaking Chad Moeller’s 40.

His salary is just such a waste if it prohibits us from signing someone useful.

How can this even be an argument?

JBJ's salary this year was 6.5 million, 3.5 million of which is deferred.

JBJ's salary for 2022 is 9.5 million, 6.5 million of which is deferred.

I don't think paying JBJ three million dollars in 2022 will prohibit the Brewers from signing someone useful.

Hader coming in for the 8th. Stretching him out here and getting him a rep of getting up and down for two innings ? ETA: had score backwards in my head

The Cardinals are annoying. I'm glad that this is likely the last we'll see of them for this season.

(I know, I know .... let's cross that bridge if we get to it.)

Head-to-head record against them this season was 8-10 going into this game ... so, yeah, I hate them, too! :laughing

Narvaez has really faded in the 2nd half of the season.

Pina should have hit there against the lefty! Come on, CC! Wake up out there!

Uhh, if you haven't noticed, these are basically Spring Training games, and are being treated as such. For all we know, Pina is in the massage room right now.

At least we won't have to face those terrifying KC Royals in the playoffs!

Bally Sports Wisconsin announcers said that Counsell wants to win these games -- I heard that on last night's broadcast.

tree up, tree down, tree kays

Yep. With Hader pithing in the 8th of a game we are losing it is clear Counsel is treating these games like scrimmages to get things ready for the postseason.

Since the all-star break (prior to today's game):

Narvaez: 184 PA, 3 HR, 21 RBI, .234/.283/.335 (618 OPS)

Pina: 95 PA, 8 HR, 23 RBI, .262/.347/.595 (943 OPS)

I mean, he's not going to come out and say that they don't care. But right now the #1 goal is to go into next week rested and healthy.

Keston hitting the ball with authority today ... some bad luck outs, but good to see ... would have liked to see it earlier in the season on a more consistent basis to be sure ... will he make the playoffs roster?

Does "momentum" matter? I think it probably does, at least a little.
