Very sad news for sure.

Not that it makes it any less tragic regardless, but it's baffling as to why the man was trying to cross a busy interstate highway on foot in the wee hours of the morning.

To be clear, it was reportedly 6:30 am, not the middle of the night, etc. Many joggers I know are out running around sun up and often have to cross busy streets in dawn lighting. Not sure if that’s what happened, but as he’s a conditioning athlete that was my first assumption as to what the situation may have been.

Yeah I'm not saying he was up to no good. Just puzzling for him have been trying to cross a busy interstate on foot. I'm a runner myself so I definitely get what you're saying but interstate highways are a little different. Regardless, tragic.

According to reports out of Miami, just to add perspective, it would appear his car ran out of gas and he was getting out of the Driver's Side door at the time of the accident. Obviously, it is tragic any way you look at it. From the looks of the footage (HERE: Brief footage in Video atop page), it would appear he was extremely close to an exit.

Regardless of what happened, 24 years old anyone is far too young into adulthood to meet your Maker. Just a tragic tragic event for all involved.

DeAndre Hopkins suspended six games for PEDs.

These always feel light compared to what MLB dishes out for PED suspensions.  Severino was suspended for about 50% of the season while Hopkins is only suspended for about 35% of the season.  Also Severino can't play in the playoffs but Hopkins will be able to play in the playoffs if the Cardinals make it.

The NFL's policy seems far more relaxed than MLB's.

That's because the media doesn't care about steroids in any sport other than baseball. NFL PED suspensions basically get shoved at the end of the new and notes section of the sports pages while most MLB players who get PED suspensions are publicly tarred and feathered.

But that just mimics the leagues.  The NFL treats it like a slap on the wrist, while MLB uses it as a means of punishing their players.  The NFL also wants their stars to be popular and their brand/product to be popular and they have no problem sharing a fixed amount of revenue with their players so they have minimal labor unrest and minimal PR battles where they have to bash the players.  MLB wants to push every dime into the owners pockets, makes the players out to be villains and the ones trying to destroy the game every CBA renewal (basically every 5 years they attack their own product) then they wonder why they have a general malaise problem and apathy from anyone under 40.  MLB announces another suspension of extreme length to emphasize the players are ruining the integrity of the game, but the owners are there to protect it, so it makes the news, NFL slaps someone on the wrist and yawn.  The whole playoff ban in MLB is just stupid because it punishes the team as much as the player.  If they don't want the player to get additional "pay" then allow them to play, but suspend their postseason paycheck or donate it to drug addiction prevention, but that would make sense and MLB runs away from common sense.

I don't think I could disagree with this more.

Am I the only one that finds the slow leak of the NFL schedule to be unnecessary and obnoxious? Is anyone really waiting in suspense to find out who plays on SNF in the first week of December?

Not at all.  I'd be curious to see ratings. This isnt the march madness bracket where most teams/fans are on the edge of their seat to see seeding, location, opponents and who misses the cut.  A literal waste of time.

Add in the fact that March Madness starts 48 hours after the announcement of the brackets and you can see the value in watching the bracket release live. If the NFL ever has bubble teams that may or may not make the NFL schedule, that will be the first time I watch the schedule release as appointment viewing. We already know the opponents, we are just waiting on the order that the deck is shuffled.

With no Brewers to watch, I turned on ESPN. They were in the middle of telling us that the Bengals made the Super Bowl last year despite low odds to make it, and that their odds are better this year. Fascinating stuff, especially for someone who was in a coma all last season and hadn't heard any of that.

That's the sort of thing the ESPN-watching crowd eats up.

NFL Sunday Ticket will be moving to a streaming platform in 2023.  Unknown at this time which one(s) it will be at this time.  I am thinking Hulu or YouTubeTV will be getting the NFL Sunday ticket.

This serves as another blow to Directv, which had exclusivity to the Sunday ticket product.  Cord cutters have already reduced cable & satellite subscribers.  This is bound to chip away further at the satellite subscriber base.

My contract is up in November and I'm not renewing.  I wonder if the satellite dish is destined for the same nostalgic place as video rental stores.

Deshaun Watson is negotiating the length of his suspension. Since when are players allowed to negotiate that? And both the player and the league will have the ability to appeal whatever agreement they come to. Seems like the NFL has no clue what it's doing here.

I guess I don't find this unusual.  A kid "negotiates" with their parents,  but that doesn't mean they succeed...

I'd love to see the NFL suspend him for the last game of 2022 and the playoffs and a significant part of 2023 to give the finger to the Haslams and Watson for their negotiated $1M 2022 base salary.

The length of a suspension should be pretty clearly stated based on the infraction. PED's is what 4 games, and then increases each time after that. I think even all the player safety stuff put in a few years ago is clearly defined. All the suspensions for off the field stuff that have happened (Ray Rice, Roethlisberger, etc.) has been all over the place but I've yet to hear about a player negotiating the length of the suspension. Isn't the NFL supposed to hand down a suspension and then the player appeals? It almost seems to me like the NFL knows they have little ground to stand on with whatever they impose and will likely lose big time during an appeal. Why else would they draw this out as long as they have?

The NFL has rolled out its streaming service with NFL+.

Two options one for 4.99 a month which gets you live games and another for 9.99 a month which allows you to watch live and recorded games.

https://www.nfl.com/plus/learn-more

Also it looks as though Amazon or Apple will be the new home for Sunday Ticket.

I was looking at the site and it doesn't look like you can stream on a smart TV, nor a PC.  Am I interpreting this correctly?

You are correct.

I guess the NFL is going the MLB route on making it difficult to watch a game at least live.  But you can watch replays on any device with your NFL+ premium subscription.

Well, right now Watson only has I think two civil suits pending and no criminal charges against him. Is that really worth a year's suspension? Especially considering the weak suspensions players get for punching women and other sins, Watson's situation should probably only constitute a Week 1 suspension and that's it.
