Hader VERY BAD for Padres

I was in favor of this trade on the day it happened

Here is my post on the Brewer Fanatic fan forum when I heard Hader was shipped to San Diego

Notice that I didn’t even know how to spell Rogers yet ?

Should your comment be in blue?

I assume you are being sarcastic

My loyalties are always going to be with whoever is currently a Brewer

Once traded or playing for another team, I no longer have interest in “former” Brewers success or failure

My only reason for posting that I was in support of the Hader trade was to suggest that I am not surprised by his sudden & drastic slide to “terrible” & “unreliable”

I don’t wish him any harm, but I hope he continues to struggle because we need to surpass San Diego for a wild card spot or miss the playoffs altogether

This year’s Brewer team will NOT catch the Cardinals - we’ve lost 8 games to them in the standings in the last month

The best pitcher, so far, was DFAed by the Brewers.  The rest are all crap, but hey we'll ignore the one's wearing Brewers Unis.

I think that’s the point of the entire  tweet. It’s ignoring nothing…

I may re-post that original post-Hader trade comment every time he blows another save … which could be often … unless San Diego removes him from that role - which would be wise

Oh my goodness, Hader might lead us to the postseason after all!

Not if our team can't beat the dregs of the division . . . .

Or any dregs of any divisions, for that matter . . . .

One of the first things I do each morning is check to see if Hader had another bad outing

I also check the scores of teams with whom we are competing for a playoff spot

Currently …

We are four games behind the Cards in the division & their remaining schedule is much easier than Milwaukee’s

We are two games back of Philly for one of the wildcard spots

We are one game back of the Padres for the final wildcard spot

San Diego has played four more games & has one more loss than the Brewers

I’m not hopeful, but will continue to cheer for our underperforming Brew Crew

Several in this forum “believe” - possibly based on Atlanta’s 2021 World Series championship - that once we get to the playoffs, anything is possible

I hope they are right … here’s hoping that we get another “bite of the apple” in 2022

Can you imagine what this board would look like if Stearns hadn’t traded Hader and he was blowing game after game for us?

I mean it’s been tough enough as it is ……but not only would people be ******** at Hader for blowing games…..but also at Stearns for not trading him before he tanked his trade value.

Instead we have 6 years of control of Gasser and Ruiz……along with more flexibility in the bullpen…….Rogers hasn’t been great either but he hasn’t been as bad as Josh.

Was Josh ever booed in Milwaukee?

It’s amazing how quiet all those Hader fans - who were so vocal at the beginning of the original “Hader traded to the Padres” thread - are now. So many were ready to lynch Stearns & the majority were disgusted by the return. The trade is looking much better by the day. Great job, Stearns! Thanks for reminding us that you are indeed a great GM.

Just to be clear, the $15M number being thrown around is an arbitration estimate assuming another typical Hader-like season as he is still pre-Arby's and not a free agent until 2024.

At this rate, no way will he get $15M in arbitration.  I don't see Hader getting more than the $11M he is getting this season.

He will definitely get more than $11m he has already secured that.  Once he hits 30 saves that is a near guarantee that he gets $15m.  Though he was on pace to get a massive pay raise this off season.  If he continues at the pace he currently is on then $15m shouldn’t be a problem.

Kinda feel bad for him at this point.   As far as I know the velocity and the break on the slider are still there.  He's probably a minor tweak from being fine again but it's shocking it's been going on for this long now.  If he was tipping it would've been figured out by now.  You'd think the same for a minor mechanical tweak.   I'd have trusted MKEs staff to figure the mechanical stuff out by now, I don't know anything about SDs though.  And after this long and this many baaad blowups there's a mental aspect to it now.

I didn't put too much stock in the few bad games right before he left. He's had 2-3 short stints like that over the years and bounced back after a week or three.  Figured that was the same here, but this is worse than any of those past stints and it's been much longer now so who knows.

Will you repost that when Rogers pitches like trash?

7.94 ERA, 5.2 IP, 5 ER, 1.412 WHIP

(You can argue most of the damage came in one game but I wouldn't be popping champagne corks over Rogers just yet)

Good riddance

Am I the only one who hates it when people say this? Hader is a decent dude who pitched his ass off for the Brewers. Saying "good riddance" is so unnecessarily hostile.

If it was simply Rogers straight up for Hader - I would … but the two minor leaguers will determine whether this trade was successful

I may be the only one - but when Hader imploded against the Giants - I wanted him to be traded & was genuinely happy that he was traded

I don’t dislike him - he’s a good dude & had many successful outings & seasons with Milwaukee

He now pitches for a team with whom we are competing for a playoff spot so I hope he remains their closer & continues his slide

And I want Rogers to succeed because he plays for my favorite team

More like a full blown Turnbow.

Or Axford. I was OK for the trade because i have been watching baseball for about 25 years and pretty much the only closer who was consistently good was Mo Rivera. He’s still going probably going to get a decent contract once he hits FA in 2023 but whoever does it it taking a risk, which i would say if he hasn’t been so bad the last 6 weeks.

I could have been kinder in my comments

I can’t apologize for being glad Hader is no longer on my favorite team

I could avoid tacky & unnecessary comments

Thanks for that reminder ?

Does anybody else remember what happened around the time Hader started pitching poorly?

He had requested leave to spend time with his wife and unborn child IIRC.  We don't know exactly what happened, but it seems absolutely strange for him to complete go off the deep end pitching.  My thought is that his mind is not fully with baseball.

If you choose to say, "he is making $X,XXX millions of dollars, so he should suck it up," please don't be one of the individuals who says it is ok for Lauer to speak his mind.  I have a feeling very few of us on this board really know what it is like to play a game for millions of dollars, much less go through a family crisis.

Again, this is just speculation.

100% agree and I said the same thing. I dealt with issues too with my first born and its hard to hard to help her and be there for her and still keep everything else you are responsible for moving. I do take exception that this is similar to Lauer. In corporate American nobody gets a heads-up that their teammate / coworker is getting cut for cost savings. You do need to be professional and do your job.

It's also possible the trade took the wind out of Hader's sails just like it did in the Brewers' clubhouse. We can't just assume his production in San Diego would have been his production in Milwaukee.
