Sean Murphy

Posted

In another thread I just commented on I realized including Jeferson Quero in a Sean Murphy trade would make sense. Original poster idea was Frelick, Turang, Gasser.  Lets swap Turang with Quero and that is a grouping I'd agree with.

A's have Tyler Soderstrom who has C/1b  atop their prospects. Sounds like his bat is ready but his Catcher skills may need time. I don't see a good 1b holding down the position, so Quero gives them true depth at C in 2years.  Gasser can start pitching for them probably  after Super 2 passes, and Frelick is an instant starter for them.

A's also have Shea Langeliers probably ready to take over for Murphy right now.

Ah nice catch. He must have just graduated off prospect lists and BRef listed him as DH for A's last year so I missed he was a Catching option. I wouldnt change my top 3 offer. Quero is a sure thing defensively at Catcher. 1b/DH are needs too Oakland could slide Shea and Tyler in to once Quero was full time ready.

Yeah, there's no way they're not adding a catcher with ML experience.

I hope ur right... Who is out there that is good?

Dont think it will be Vazquez, he wants 4 years... Murphy price is too high... Jansen is meh.

I still think a trade with Toronto is likely

Or Atlanta... Wouldnt mind d'Arnaud, although he's a FA after 23 season.

Im guessing Toronto would only deal Jansen... Kirk and Moreno are untouchable most likely.

Yeah we seem to match up well with them.  They need pitching and outfielders and we have an abundance of both.

Darnaud also has an option (8 mil I think) for 2024. He would be a good bridge to Quero

While we've all talked a move for a catcher; am I correct that this is the first time Arnold has actually mentioned it?

Not sure. But it's sure as heck good to hear that he's not content with Caratini/Feliciano/Henry.

I think we are going to make a move at catcher and I’d be surprised if it isn’t one of the options we are kicking around.  They are likely exploring all of it and trying to decide the best course of action.

First domino fell in the catcher market today.

I bet we have a new #1 catcher within a week.

My prediction: it comes via trade.

Has there been any indication any team is willing to give him Vazquez 4 years? He would be the oldest catcher to get more than 2 years since Carlos Ruiz, and I think the only non-star catcher to get more than two in the last five or so years, McCann, has turned out badly enough that it should serve as a giant warning sign.

Yes, I've seen reports that he's looking for 3-4 years.

What about Small , Huira and someone in the 12 to 15 range?

That's nowhere near enough. Would you give up 3 seasons of on e of the best catchers in the game for that package?
