Rodgers is sitting on a hill somewhere thinking, ‘The jets? Really? Is that it? The Jets? Hmmm….. Maybe I should call the packer front office and chat about coming back. Just to see what they say.’

Nobody has any clue what's actually happening. Assuming it's even Rodgers holding anything up is a leap at this point. We have like zero actual information. I've literally heard the deal is done and no deal is agreed to.

If I were a betting man, which I am not, the Packers want something thrown in if he plays in 2024 and they are hashing that out.

I see a lot of people "blaming" Rodgers for this "delay" and I am not sure why or what problem he is causing if he is, in fact, taking a few extra hours to figure stuff out.

Wingo does seem to have a line to Rodgers as he's reported a couple of times over the past couple of years and been accurate. I wonder if the disparity is that Rodgers finally gave the go-ahead today, and, as you note, they're now finalizing comp.

I think from the Jets' perspective, it's been a HUUUUUGE problem as they've now seen a couple of the only viable 'backup plans' come off the board today while they wait. I suppose from a Packer perspective the draft comp could effect what they do in free agency from a cap perspective as well....

I'm just wondering if the Packers are trying to avoid the same thing again where he ends up in the division a year later. I don't know if that's even a thing to be reasonably attained. But that's what I'm thinking.

But since it cost us a first-rounder to get Rodgers in the first place, if we only get a first-rounder back in return, than we wouldn't have profited at all from the investment.

I think the big thing is that he's had months to figure this out. I'm guessing the packers and jets would have loved to have figured this out ages ago.

But you never know. Maybe it's nothing to do with Rodgers. Perhaps most of it is set, and there are some final tweaks to be done before announcing whatever the decision is.

I also think it's fair to note that Rodgers has a long history of being a spiteful, grudge-holding guy. Doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to wonder if since the Packers appear to have told him they're wanting to move on, dragging his feet might be a way to passive-aggressively cause them some difficulty in this.

Seems like that would be hurting his own cause as the negotiating period is open and the Jets would like to be telling any potential FAs that Brucie isn't the plan at QB next year. The waiting harms NYJ more than GB.

My sense is that the Jets and Packers know exactly what's up and there is some kind of negotiation between all three parties going on behind the scenes.

Yeah, you'd think this is the case. Just hashing out details.

Only other thing I can think of is Rodgers is having last minute doubts.

I am very curious to see what the comp is for this trade. If we don't get their first this year, I will be disappointed.

The only team really being hurt by any sort of delay is the Jets at this point...perhaps he's just giving them a taste of what they're in for the next 1+ seasons.  My guess would be the trade isn't finalized because both the Packers and Jets are sorting out draft compensation options should Rodgers play more than 1 season in New York, and possibly sorting out a restructure of Rodgers' existing deal to even make that a possibility for the Jets without carrying a massive cap # in 2024.

GB was never going to be a major player in free agency this season no matter what Rodgers opted to do - they're just sorting out 2023 draft options, and perhaps filling a roster hole or two with a mid tier free agent on the O line or safety.

That's a different tune than Wingo was singing this morning/yesterday evening when he replied to a tweet from Andrew Brandt and said that neither the Packers nor the Jets knew anything.

Nice to see Rodgers living up to his promise not to hold the team hostage with his decision....

This should be a surprise to no one.

This was never going to be quick. All the different teams had to decide if they wanted to pursue him, pursue other options, see what every option costed, etc etc etc.

Even when the final option comes to be, the Jets, a lot of pieces to figure out. Money issues, draft compensation, player compensation. What if Rodgers needs to play with Bahk and the Jets don’t want him. What if he requires the Jets to go get Lazard? Possible they have to wait for FA to start so the Jets can make sure they can get some player Rodgers wants on offense.

There is no way Rodgers is dragging his feet to spite the Packers, that I would be confident in.

I'm prepared for this to drop at any minute, and I know it's going to, but IDK, I still find it all pretty sad. I wish he'd gotten a proper send off. I'm sure that'll happen six years from now at a nice ceremony, but this dude gave so much to the Packers and performed at such a high level for such a prolonged period of time...as a fan, it just sucks to see soooo many fans trashing the guy on his way out the door.

I get that people have their irritations with him lately (I think almost entirely misconstrued but w/e), it's just bizarre in some ways watching the guy get trashed relentlessly while so much worse conduct has been largely ignored over my lifetime as a fan.

Well, anything close to a Wilson comp from last year is definitely long gone.

I'd be thrilled if we get their 1st. I'd be happy with even a 1st in '24. I'm preparing to be disappointed with a pair of 2nds.
