I'd be pretty shocked if the Packers got a 1st. Not exactly the same but I don't recall what Favre got, a 4th? But isn't this kind of DEFCON 1 now for NYJ, who's playing QB if not Rodgers? So who knows.

I had a vision last night the Packers bailed out and just named Love the starter.

The Packers fanbase is embarrassing. Any time I am in public and someone wants to talk about the Packers I want to find the nearest exit.

Packers ended up getting a 3rd, but it was a conditional pick that could have gone all the way to a 1st had Favre led the Jets deep into the playoffs. Also, that trade was orchestrated in August after training camp had already begun. The Packers were backed into a corner. There's a little more wiggle room now.

Not to mention Rodgers has an MVP award 2/3 of the last three years. 2/3 of Favre's last three years before that trade he looked like garbage not worthy to even be a back-up.

He was pretty good the year he was traded though which Rodgers was not. I think Rodgers is still going to be really good if he plays and other teams think that too. I'd expect Rodgers to be valued higher than Favre, but a 1st for a 40 y/o QB, whose team has publicly said they don't want him, is a lofty expectation. It's weird because both teams really can't afford not to make this happen. Possibly even more so for the Jets.

I think it would be really funny if Rodgers comes on McAfee's show to make an announcement, and either the Packers or Jets (or both) say, "Screw it" and announce the trade about 15 minutes before Rodger's makes his appearance.

Now there is scuttlebutt that the holdup is that the Packers are demanding multiple 1st rounders. I predict that they'll get a 2nd this year, and a conditional pick next year based on if Rodgers plays in 2024, and how well he/the Jets do.

Look at the comps of recently traded QBs:

Colts traded a 3rd rounder (88 overall) for Matt Ryan.

Colts traded a 3rd rounder (84 overall) then a 1st (16th overall) for Carson Wentz

The Commanders traded a 2nd (42nd overall) a 3rd (74th overall) then another 3rd (79th overall) for Wentz, a 2nd (47 overall) and a 7th (240 overall).

Russell Wilson and a 4th got a 1st (9th overall), 2nd (40th overall),  5th (152 overall), then a 1st (5th), 2nd (37th) and three players.

Given the above, you'd think the Packers would likely get at least a 1st for Rodgers this year maybe a player or later round picks plus conditional picks should he play beyond '23.

The problem is that comps are almost never actually comps because each situation has 10 variables. There isn't one name on that list who's a one-year rental expectation at time of trade, or 40 like Rodgers could/will be. And that's not even getting into who's available at the time of trade, time of year, how badly he has to be traded.

It's never as simple as Player A was worse than Player B so Player B should fetch more.

I feel like more pressure is on the Jets here. The Packers are still motivated to get a deal done but they can try to turn the screws a bit. Honestly even if things don't get worked out until after June 1st it's still not a tragedy. They're going to want picks in this year's draft though so it's likely things get worked out before then.

I do not think the Packers are getting two 1st round picks though. No chance. The Jets could just go make an offer to Lamar Jackson if they were willing to do that AND they could wait until after the draft to get it done so that the picks come in the next two years.

A 1st this year would be nice, a 2nd is still good and hope for a 15th for 13th pick swap as a cherry on top. Conditional pick for next year and/or maybe a player. These work for me.

For those unable to see the soap opera, Rodgers says the Packers told him the door was open after the season if he wanted to play again. Says after the darkness retreat, he was getting texts and such that he was being shopped, and was 90% retiring.

Dwelled on it and wanted to play for the Jets, says he is not holding things up, it's the teams.

LOL so he was going to retire until he heard GB was shopping him so he decided not to retire. Thanks, Aaron!

Once again: Everything Trey Wingo treated about a Rodgers situation was entirely 100% accurate. And, it is apparent, the Packers still suffer from Upper Midwest passive aggressive communication (or, let's be honest: no direct communication) when releasing or moving on from their vets. A Rod is being completely honest and candid but cordial. It's all about compensation at this point. Again, as Wingo alluded to. The man is in the know.

Packers can play hardball now. Wait until June 1.

That story doesn't make sense about Rodgers retiring until he heard he was being shopped. He is just trying to make the Packers look like the bad guys which is what he wanted all along.

If he wanted to do that, he would have done a much better job. This seems like a stretch.

I don't think that's quite what was said. He came out of Hades and had messages that he was being shopped. And his knee-jerk was 'I'm 90% toward retiring.' I took it as more of a, 'I'm 40, I don't want to go through something new.' But after a couple of days came around to reality that he wanted to play and both sides were mutually disinterested in that being in GB.

IMO, he's not coming across as particularly bitter at all though I'm sure it will get reported that way.

He also claims he has little/nothing to do with who's been signed. Claims they asked him about Lazard.

Agreed. He's just being honest. The Packers still struggle with direct communication. He's also shared: he shares no animosity. There's no agenda here. He's being honest. Just look at how Mark Murphy handled this. It isn't a stretch. At all.

This is about as straightforward and uncomplicated as it could have been. Mutual interest in moving on. Done.

You guys believe what he says more than I do. He lost credibility with the whole "immunized" thing.

I haven't seen anyone say they believe a word. Just telling you what he's literally saying.

Although none of it sounds particularly hard to believe.

Rodgers does seem to have this idea that only the Green Bay Packers dump aging players unceremoniously.
