He said he went INTO the retreat at 90% retiring.  While in the retreat that number moved more toward 50/50.  After leaving the retreat, he was taken aback by the words that the Packers were looking to deal him, and yet he also said that the entire year last year he was getting the feeling that the Packers didn't really want him back, yet nobody would actually say that.

LOL so he was going to retire until he heard GB was shopping him so he decided not to retire. Thanks, Aaron!

Yeah...that's weird. If that was the case you'd think he'd just retire.

You guys believe what he says more than I do. He lost credibility with the whole "immunized" thing.

Irony being that he will soon be getting his paychecks from a guy that made his bones in big pharma.

wouldn't you want it resolved before the draft to get 2023 picks?

Yeah I would prefer that but I think the Jets are more on the clock in that regard than the Packers.

Well, A Rod did talk to the Universe laughing...this would again be an example. 😂

What the Packer take Zach Wilson as a part of the trade.

Please no. Good gracious. 🤣 In all seriousness, I imagine the Jets want to cling to that: A Rod is Wilson's hero maybe he can actually develop with a HOF mentor?

I mean, who the Packers backup QB is next season is a legit question.

They'll likely sign someone like Marcus Mariota. Similar playing style to Love, and already familiar with Lafleur and his offense.

Agreed. He's just being honest. The Packers still struggle with direct communication. He's also shared: he shares no animosity. There's no agenda here. He's being honest. Just look at how Mark Murphy handled this. It isn't a stretch. At all.

Yep, and all the players he mentioned were washed up when the Packers moved on: Nelson, Hawk, Matthews, Cobb.  Brett Goode never got another contract after the Packers moved on. Peppers maybe wasn't completely washed up but went to being a situational pass rusher after leaving the Packers.

What are the Packers supposed to do, offer counseling to these players on what life will be like after they're not good enough for the NFL anymore?

Rodgers is just one of those player treatment defenders, much like Corbin Burnes whining about his arby hearing.  They aren't necessarily logical competitive points.

I thought his point was the wishi-washi-ness of the Packers communication to all these guys that was annoying, not the fact that the Packers moved on from them.

What is interesting to me, now, is that we're finally going to see Lafleur's full offensive vision, and not the hybrid version that Rodgers has run the last few years. I both appreciate everything that Aaron Rodgers brought to this franchise over the years, and am excited by the prospect of what's to come.

After this announcement I would expect the trade compensation to disappoint. We just don't have any leverage at all.

I guess I'm wondering what leverage the Jets have? What is their plan B?

True, but they know the Packers can't /won't keep Rodgers at this point and he isn't going anywhere else.

That's inaccurate. Yes, he wants to play for the Jets. But the Packers certainly don't HAVE to trade him. He's already on the books. The Packers can sit on his contract until the Jets meet their asking price. And you can bet that the Jets fanbase is going to go crazy if this drags out.

Part of me thinks the Packers and Jets already have agreed to the basics of a deal, and now the Jets are reneging. That isn't going to end well for them.

Exactly. I think all he is literally saying is: Tell the player exactly how you feel before you move on. Put a human quality to the business decision.

The Packers absolutely could and should play that hardball. This is a business. IF they don't give you your desired compensation now...why the heck would you not hold firm until after June 1st? They already signed Alan Lazard. Worst happens is you lose out on some compensation but you already have to pay. I personally think they should hold firm. If it falls apart, it's way worse for the New York media market. Packers can take the hit.

Sure they do, now that Rodgers stated he intends to play in '23 they can trade him to whatever team they want for conditional picks if he shows up and plays. They ostensibly hold nearly all the cards.
