If Woody is injured badly & in danger of surgery - we may need to trade Burnes & Adames sooner than later & stockpile top prospects for a rebuild

Man I hope he does not have a long-term injury

I’m afraid that would be devastating for this team’s chances in 2023

It definitely sounds like the thought that he would be back at the end of the 15 days was a pipe dream.

If there was good news we would know it by now.

Not good.

This is why pitchers are playing with fire if they reject extension guarantees or avoid extension talks in hopes of hitting it big in free agency.

And yet he will hit it big in FA regardless.

Not if he has to undergo shoulder surgery that costs him this season and part of next year - at least in terms of landing a 5-7 year deal worth $25+ million per.

Shoulder problems are much worse for pitcher longevity than a blown elbow ligament.  Just ask Jimmy Nelson or Ben Sheets.

Unfortunately agree with Chourizo, this is a  tough business and there is no guarantee of a big contract until signed. Still wishing for the best though and it isn't very serious like initially thought.

He is already rich and still has tens of millions almost assured in the future whether he has horrible shoulder surgery or not.

Brewers would offer him arbitration and make another $10mil next year. Then, regardless of results (barring injury), would probably make even more than that in 2025. Heck, if he was so concerned at that point he could probably still find a team willing to gamble a long term contract for over $10mil a year.

His chances of getting a mega deal ever would be in jeopardy…but that is sure putting the cart before the horse.

Wonder if they'd call up Gasser if Woody is on the shelf for a few months.

This is fine, all things considered. As long as it’s not a season ender or something that’s going to shelve him until September like Ashby. Time for Freddy to come into his own as an ace.

I'll take a super uneducated guess and say he's out until mid May

Which would be totally fine with how we've started the season.

But it’s a sub scap strain, which is closer to a 3 month recovery including the stretch-out. Woodruff said if the injury had happened mid-season he probably wouldn’t have pitched again this season — so closer to 3 months.

I’ll say August 1. Gonna be rough on the starters and the team for the next 3+ months. They might need to trade one of their rookie OFs for a staring pitcher to stay in contention in 2023.

Awful news. I'll guess at best he returns last week of August or 1st week in September if at all.  This style of injury to shoulders is filled with time table setbacks.  Example-He starts up a throwing program and on 2nd or 3rd time the shoulder isn't right and sits for 2+ weeks before making the next 1st throwing program. Where you find out surgery needs to happen because the shoulder hasn't improved.

This really adds to how the season plays out.  I fear we're on a 2014 stretch. Early success but the bullpen can't maintain leads as they wear down. Worse yet they make a trade to pursue success for this season but then it doesn't pay off.

This has got to be top 5 injuries derailing a team for this season and we're 2nd week in.

The fact that Woodruff said the injury would be season ending if it occurred around the All Star break pretty clearly indicates that he won’t be back until sometime after the All Star break at the earliest.

Season ending doesn’t seem out of the question.

Doom & gloom, jeesh.

Its a muscle injury, not structural, with a healing-time of 6-8 weeks. Add 4-5 weeks of ramp-up and even if it’s 13 weeks, he’s back before August.

The team just needs to hang-in there until Woody’s back and should have a good opportunity to do so with getting Houser back soon and being able to add the likes of Gasser, Andrews and Uribe as the season moves along to strengthen the staff.
