If you don't like Rea, you would hate Boushley. Boushley doesn't even average 90mph with his FB.

Boushley is 28 and has never pitched in the MLB. Think Jason Alexander smoke and mirrors when you consider Boushley.

I've watched plenty of Boushley. Also Alexander throws 93 which is 4 mph faster than what Boushley is throwing this year.

I mean it was a 94 mph FB right on the edge. Could have definitely been up a bit more but any pitch on the edge like that shouldn't be classified as a bad pitch.

Watching it live I thought it was just outer half of plate

Where are them hot takes about the Cardinals being toast. Pressure inning after pressure inning…

OK, I'll play.  The Cardinals are currently 9 games under .500 and in last place by 2.5 games in the NL central which Features the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates.  Their current hot stretch has them with the worst record in the NL and the fourth worst record in all of baseball.  Despite that current hot stretch (7-3 in their last 10) the have managed to gain one whole game on the Brewers over that period (6-4 in their last 10) leaving the Cardinals 7.5 games back going into Wednesday without having suffered any significant injuries.  Folks can kneel at the alter of the Cardinal all they like but any talk of their rise from the ashes is just as hyperbolic as any perceived talk of their demise.

What I'm curious about is where all the "The Pirates are impressive" and "Watch out for the Pirates" hot takes went.

But that's more so my point. Alexander came up last year and his first few starts were serviceable. No book on him. If there is a scout on Rea at this point and he is going to pitch 4 innings and give up 5 runs ... might as well throw a different arm at them and hope for an Alexander like first start or two. That's all I'm saying.

Rea has only struggled when his command has been terrible. When he's locating his pitches he isn't having issues. His stuff is way better than someone like Boushley.

I'm not disagreeing who has better stuff. But 185 big league innings and a career ERA of 5... 'only struggled when his command has been terrible' - with all due respect to Colin ... it seems like that is always.

Maybe Boushley isn't the best guy to give the ball to then ... I suggested him because he has thrown 5 straight QS. I'm just saying we know what we are getting with Rea at this point. Maybe try something else is all I'm after.

I’m talking about Rea’s struggles this year. What he’s done in the past is irrelevant to me and he’s added multiple pitches to his repertoire since then.

The Rays sweeping the Brewers this weekend just got that much more likel

To be fair, the Rays are a threat to sweep any series regardless of opponent.  They are on another level.

I'm not sure what you're trying to imply but Rea added a sweeper this offseason that currently has a .175 xwOBA against, a 34.4% whiff rate and a 21% putaway rate. It's a good pitch and the putaway pitch he desperately needed to add.

That makes what he's done in the past pretty irrelevant. Obviously it's not to the same degree but what Corbin Burnes did before the cutter is also irrelevant because that cutter made him a different pitcher. The same rings true for Rea with his sweeper.

Cardinals pushing Wainwright to Thursday to get another LHP in there against the Crew. Predicting a #Ruf outing for Liberatore tomorrow!

I was hoping they didn't do this. He has been so good in AAA this season and pitched 5 scoreless against the Brewers last year.

One positive I guess is that two of his worst starts this year were his last two so maybe he's not firing on all cylinders at the moment.

I also remember seeing before his last start, he had the lowest xERA of the whole Brewers rotation with 3.48. he actually had some bad luck but was looking good, and can produce on a given night. I'm happy enough taking a chance, i feel he's earned a short or two more as well

A triple AAA pitcher... damn, Keston would've gone bananas on his ass

That is my point. The Rays are beating everyone, especially at home. A Brewers team that is having trouble scoring runs going into a series against a team that is scoring in buckets is tough enough. Going in with only one of their top four SP makes it that much tougher.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
