Ten rounds down, ten rounds to go for the 2023 MLB Draft. It's been a life-changing event for 314 young men so far; there will be 300 more lives changed on Tuesday afternoon. Keep it tuned to Brewer Fanatic for live updates throughout the remainder of the draft.

Today's portion of the draft, which will conclude with rounds 11 through 20, will begin at 1 p.m. CT.

One update with the new CBA: players selected on Day 3 can sign for up to $150,000 without it impacting the team's bonus pool. Any dollars above that threshold will count toward the cap. For example, if a player today signs for $200k, it will count $50k toward the team's bonus pool.

im having so much fun mlb should do the draft twice a year just so we can have more coverage

They almost did but MLB and the MLBPA couldn't agree on terms for an international draft.

Small Day 2 wrap-up

Guys they took that were on my list yesterday:

Eric Bitonti - This is a high risk, high reward type of pick, but the power could be double-plus and he is going to be a strong defender at third base. 

Ryan Birchard - One of my favorite Juco arms, can get close to triple digits with a nasty sweeping curve. I think he can be a starter. Though he may need to separate that sweeping curve into two different offerings (in the draft league he may already have done this, so that's a great sign).

Two guys that almost made my list yesterday

Cooper Pratt - He would have made my list, I honestly thought he wasn't sign-able, so getting him in the 6th is crazy. He's a legit defender who I think will stick at short, which is pretty impressive at his height. The bat will likely lean toward hit over power, but there will be some pop in there. At his size, that could certainly develop more later on too.

Craig Yoho - I actually originally had him on the list, but I cut him and a few others out because it felt like it was getting too long. I think he has three above average to plus secondary pitches in his changeup, slider and curveball. His fastball has good characteristics too, just not huge velocity. Pretty new to pitching full time, this one could be a huge steal in my opinion.

Some Day 3 guys I would like to see them go after:

I'm assuming that the Brewers do not have much, if any, money to go over the $125k bonus in rounds 11-20. So not listing any high schoolers, though they will likely take at least 1 or 2.

Seems like the Brewers strategy may be as simple as:

Quality of hitters over quantity.

Quantity of pitchers over quality.

Three Indiana guys.  I wonder if that has ever happened?

Adamczewski started at second base the past two seasons. He hit .488 with four homers and 36 RBIs last year and .470 with 23 RBIs in his high school debut after his freshman season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

 

The 6-foot Adamczewski has gained weight throughout his career. He went from 145 pounds as a freshman to 195 this season.

Curious to know what the strategy is here - taking all of these HS guys in the later rounds?  Does our FO think that they can sign a few of these guys?  Otherwise, I'm not sure why you would take so many HS guys in rounds 10-20.  Or, are we just OK if they end up sticking with their college commitments and we lose out on the picks?

I mean at this point in the draft you’re either taking lottery tickets or org fillers. One can make the case that it might be better to gather as many lottery tickets as possible and see what sticks. Although what worries me is whether we’ll have enough money to sign all the earlier HS picks from Days 1 and 2.

It is possible that this is Pratt insurance in some ways. Because if for some reason they aren't able to sign him, yes they lose $309k in slot money, but they most likely have saved at least a million for him. Leaving them at least $700k to work with for the post 10 signings. I hope they feel like they're able to sign a few of these guys either way though. I really like Adamczewski's swing.

Think with all the changes to rookie ball that plays a big role plus big investment in international market. There is only 1 rookie ball team to feed all the DSL & draft kids two now. You can’t have those large signing classes anymore. No where to put them. Take gambles on quality, if can’t sign, go out & fill positions with udfa’s. Since there is only 20 rounds, can still find good kids available.
