Good thing the site didnt just write an article about why signing him would be a bad idea.

All kidding aside, this seems like a no brainer.  Little risk as a minor league free agent.  If he shows he is ready, great, call him up.  However, I dont think he can play in the post season, so it has limited value.

Yep. Literally zero downside with a decent possibility of a payoff.

My guess is the veterans on the Brewers signed off on this…….so to speak……or they wouldn’t have done it.

If he shows any signs of bad behavior they will drop him ……if not maybe they get lucky and he can help.

He performs well, the Crew has a deeper lineup.

He doesn't perform, he closes out the season at Nashville.

Either way, Tyler Black as the Opening Day 2024 3B is still quite possible.

Isn’t he owed a 8 million buyout this season? That’s the downside

He cleared waivers. We signed him as a FA so all we owe him is the prorated minimum when he gets added to the 26 man roster

I don't have a problem with this - as long as the team thinks they can get Donaldson back on track. His defense is still good - and let's face it - our offense at the position has been pretty bleak this year. I don't think he can do worse.

Plus the guy is going to have big reason to come in supercharged. It might be his last chance to show he belongs in the Big Leagues. A small market like Milwaukee might be perfect for him to just focus on playing. NY is not easy for that.

I mentioned in another thread that Teheran & Wilson played with him in ATL, so maybe they had some input. Assuming he doesn't want his career to be over it behooves him to play nice.

I'll trust the FO that this is worth taking a chance on.

Not to shabby, somehow he has 15 hits in 106 abs with 10 HR's and 1 double. That's a .142 ba with only -.1 WAR and a sub .100 babip or something crazy like that.

I also like the Greg Allen pickup, maybe we can finally send Weimer to AAA and get his extra arby year.

Its good too that it seems he's fine going to AAA and getting ABs in.   Keeps him away from the team to see how he acts.  But also, don't have to run the 'spring training' type ABs at the MLB level when in a tight race.   If he sucks in his first week in AAA and looks lost there's no reason you have to bring him up.  If he doesn't like it, just cut him.    If he looks generally fine and is playing nice with others, he just can't be worse than Anderson.

We can't complain about third base being a problem and then beef about the effort to solve it imo. Josh is washed of course but all he has to do is find it in a pennant race for 30 days. I like it. Trust him more than the current situation.

This article says he does not need to finish his stint on the 60 day IL.

This is a fantastic move. He's still a great defender and all advanced metrics suggest he was unlucky at the plate in a small sample size this year (.349 xwOBA.) No brainer upgrade over all of our other fading 3B options. I would promote J-Don and let him play every single day the rest of the season.
