Still nine games left, so they probably are still fluid as to what the roster will look like. I assume their biggest concern right now is Peguero being good to go after his IL stint.

One thing I feel pretty certain about is that there's no way we'll see Garrett Mitchell. Perkins has looked downright competent at the plate since being added. This team has become much, much better at working the count, drawing walks, making contact. Getting better at that stuff should be Mitchells' winter homework assignment.

I'd bet my lunch money that Mitchell makes the playoff roster. You're going to be carrying 14 or 15 position players in the WC and NLDS. Having Mitchell on the bench as a pinch runner makes a ton of sense. Perkins can stay as well.

Having the extra man or two due to a short staff DOES give him a chance, you're right about that. There are other candidates for PR, but for pure speed he more than likely trumps them. We'll see I guess.

Does anybody know if the 10/15 day waiting period for optioning players applies to the playoff roster? For example could they send Perkins down after the Marlins series in order to give Mitchell MLB action before the playoffs and still add Perkins to the Wild Card roster?

Any notion of Black coming up is unrealistic. They won't bring a rookie up for the last 8-ish games of the season and then toss him to the playoffs. MAYBE only to pinch run.

And even then there are still 2 matters. Number 1 is Black is not play-off eligible. Sure that can be solved with some ghost injuries but it is a problem nevertheless.

Number 2 is that Black is still not Rule 5 eligible and I think the Brewers would like to keep the spot open during the offseason.

The 40 man roster issue is a non issue. The Brewers will begin the offseason with 8-10 openings, and Black will need to be added for the opening day roster next year anyway.

I think that is accurate, but I'm definitely not the expert.

They could also just release Anderson to bring up Mitchell or Wiemer.

Wiemer has an 815 OPS versus lefties, and could still be part of the postseason roster if he finds himself before the end of the season.

What are the odds that Brian Anderson makes the playoff roster for some reason?

Would imagine he makes the roster only if Monasterio or Donaldson get injured. At this point I probably would not DFA and just keep as a just in case break glass for emergency.

The current roster is 28 men and the playoff roster is 26 men if I am not mistaken. I don't know if they can simply not include Anderson on the roster without having to release him

Updated Prediction:

C: Contreras, Caratini

1B: Santana, Tellez (barring a callup of Toro, Black, etc)

2B: Monasterio, Turang

SS: Adames

3B: Donaldson

OF: Canha, Yelich, Frelick, Taylor, Mitchell, Perkins

SP: Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta

RP: Williams, Payamps, Uribe, Milner, Megill, Peguero, Wilson, Miley, Chafin

Could Caratini be emergency 1B if Santana got hurt? I’m having difficulty identifying a scenario where Tellez makes sense.

If an injury to Santana is serious, then Tellez is a roster replacement.

Canha could play 1B as well and another OF can start. Since there has not been a Winker DFA I am not ruling out him making the playoff roster over Tellez at this point. I though Tellez would get it going after coming back but just has not happened. September has been brutal for Rowdy.

I agree except both Mitchell and Perkins fill the same role IMO. I'm not 100 % sure Mitchell will be ready, but I might go with Weimer instead of a guy who basically has been out all season.

Bukauskas has a good chance of making the playoff roster. Fresh arm thatwas awesome at AAA in August and September, production born from the improvement in pitch quality of his sinker.

I also agree Winker could be a possibility for the last potential PH bench role

Or Ruf……..they are both still playing in Nashville.

I wouldn’t bet on it but I wouldn’t rule it out either……..

Black also has a little experience at 1st, and I'd assume the he'd be the benefactor of a decision to go with a versatile player over Rowdy.

Black's minor league season just ended, with him posting a ridiculous 413/519/689/1308 September. I expect him to be in Milwaukee Tuesday.

Curious if we see some AAA players around this week now that Nashville is done.

Not necessarily added to the roster (or even added for the start of the playoff roster), but just to have them around incase someone should be hurt this week or next.  Kind of a taxi squad like happened during the COVID seasons.

I can't imagine sending a guy home for the winter and then needing to get them back into town and ramp them back up for a playoff roster if someone gets hurt.

Yeah. I'd personally like to see Tyler Black get the call and get some at-bats once we clinch.

Drop: Anderson, Perkins, Houser, Chafin, Bukauskas, Teheran

Add: Mitchell, Wiemer, Peguero, Lauer

Let’s not ever put the ball in Chafin’s hands, please. I’d trust Lauer more to get a key strikeout. And Wiemer’s a better center fielder than Perkins, no?

Posted

I doubt they trust Lauer enough to add him to the playoff roster this late. Hasn't pitched in the big leagues in months. Wiemer didn't do himself any favors with his play in AAA while Perkins has played pretty well in limited playing time since his return.

I think Perkins defensive metrics are right up there with Wiemer’s.

No chance they put Lauer on the playoff roster unless he somehow gets added this week for a test run……..I’d be surprised if that happened.
